I understand this is the internet but it seems that if you show interest or support for a Nintendo game then you get 100 troll responses. All aimed at making that game look or seem bad.

Then if you ask a simple question like, Whats the appeal in {insert random game here}? Because youre interested in possibly getting it. Then you get hit with a bunch of defensive Nintendo fanboys upset that you even questioned such a amazing game?

Its like a 24/7 Warzone between Nintendo Fanboys and trolls over there.

Guess what Im trying to say is... where is the love?

You mean other boards aren't as receptive to your provocations and trolling? You don't say!

System boards are often pretty bad for trolling and/or fanboyism. I learned a long time ago to just stay away from them unless I have some kind of technical question.

That said, "What's the appeal of ____?" is inherently phrased as a challenge, as though you don't think it looks appealing and are seeing if anyone can change your mind. People responding defensively to challenges is pretty normal. Consider something more along the lines of "How is ____?" or "I like X, is Y anything like that?" that adopt a more neutral position of seeking feedback.

No one on PotD took it as a challenge when I asked about Animal Crossing. Instead they offered but detailed information as to what makes the game good.

I get what youre saying about the Whats the appeal in X but the choice to respond defensively arises from ones own insecurities, no? Ill give you an example. Ive used the term, Not bad many times. How was my ambrosia salad, Hornedlion? Not bad. Thank you.

But one time I used it and the person took offense to it. Like, I was perplexed. Lady, Im saying your fish pudding is not bad. Im even saying we should do this again next time your husband is out of town! Whats wrong with you?!

That gets back to the previous point about system boards generally being cesspools of trolling and fanboyism. Nobody cares on PotD. People do care on system boards. I do remember that topic, and I did feel that it came off as "this looks boring prove me wrong," but because I know you and knew that you weren't just trying to stir up trouble (and also that Animal Crossing is going to be boring for some people), I responded seriously and didn't bother caring about your phrasing choice. When you're a stranger on a board where trolls are often looking for opportunities to take thinly-veiled shots at the system, it's more understandable that people would be less tolerant of such negative language.

Depending on how you inflect it, that can indeed be pretty dismissive and unflattering. With the right inflection, it's a playful way to say something is good, but with the wrong one, it amounts to "it's tolerable," which is a pretty rude way to respond to something people put genuine effort into. It's also going to depend on how genuinely they're seeking feedback, since if they want a more nuanced opinion, that response gives them pretty much nothing. Like most word or phrasing choices, you've got to consider context and how your audience will respond to the choices you make.

tbh, Horned really should know better at this point, which is why it feels like he does this shit deliberately to try to get a rise out of people.

As for the problem with the system and game boards, it's because they get a lot of trolls so they have an easier time spotting a malign intent whereas other people would write off a poster's early questionable behavior as a potentially good-faith inability to effectively communicate. So where we might see a dozen or two dozen questionable topics before we figure out somebody is trolling, they'll pick up on it after a post or two especially when those posts resemble things done by the board's trolls.

Because people here have known you long enough that they either put up with you or have written you off by this point. Plus the board doesn't have *that* many posters who play Animal Crossing anyway, at least not compared to a dedicated board.

Zeus as the official mouthpiece of PotD. Idk how you got that position but like every GOP president for the last few decades, Im sure you lost the popular vote.

Cause usually that question is framed as a "I don't like this game, so I don't get why other people like it" thing.

And you still pretend that you don't troll!

It's even sillier when you consider that "for the last few decades" Reagan won the popular vote in 80 and 84 (by overwhelming number -- an 18% lead! And even in 80, he won by a wider margin than Obama in 2008), GHWB won the popular vote in 88 (who also won by a wider margin than Obama did in 08), and GWB won it in 2004.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_presidential_elections_by_popular_vote_margin

But that's a typical Horned double-troll: It's a deliberate provocation that ALSO happens to be based on glaringly false information!
