News came out and trading resumed - the new HTZ offering is being suspended pending SEC review. Very disappointed in the SEC - if they were going to have issues with this, they should have raised it at the bankruptcy hearing. They had their lawyers there and were asked if they objected, and said no. Now the SEC has screwed all the people who bought this week in the belief that HTZ might be saved from bankruptcy by raising enough funds out of the lottery ticket they bought.

I've made some really bad gambles (but ones I could have escaped from if I was a good trader and..etc)

But gambling on a bankrupt company going down the shitter is exactly that. Gambling. I cant say I feel good or bad for anyone that made or lost bank on it. But I think the SEC needs to provide information here--simply because this is a very peculiar case.

I mean what I am saying is people knew what was going on with it and the weird nature of it. Much like how Elon Musk makes tweets and probably breaks some law and price goes down.

Just how it goes basically

Short term trading is almost all gambling. I teach an introductory finance course at a university, and half the lingo in this topic flies over my head because, and I don't mean to be disrespectful here, it's far too risky to be considered sound financial planning.

They knew they were probably going to lose their whole buy-in. Which is all the more reason the SEC should allow the share offering to go forward.

Today was the day to get into GAN and I knew it, but my AVCT hold is down so much I couldn't bear selling some shares to get the cash needed to get in GAN. Should've just bought on margin.

GAN is going to fucking blow up, so long as sports still happen this year. Which actually, who knows if they will. When their next earnings report comes out though that stock is skyrocketing.

In LK news, remember the shares Goldman Sachs seized from the chairman as collateral for his margin loan? They said they sold all of it, and received an average price of $2.75 per share. They got back $200 million out of the $500 million they were owed, so unless they can find some other assets of the chairman to seize, they took a loss of $300 million on the margin loan. I think everyone here who traded LK sold at a higher price than $2.75 or are still holding, so we all did better than Goldman Sachs on this one.

The funniest thing about this is that it's actually been higher than that price for more time than it hasn't been since it was unfrozen.

Like any sort of discipline with the stock gets you much more than 200 million even if you wanna play it conservatively and sell before there's a serious delisting risk (I think we're coming up on that in the next few days). And I wouldn't be surprised to see it get over $6.88 per share long term (what it needs to break even on the $500 million)

Patiently wait for things to fall more and get em on the dip

If you want something fairly safe I've noticed Dillard's is doing this thing where it's oscillating from like $20 to $40 pretty rapidly based on how optimistic or pessimistic people are feeling. I'm going to go hard on it next time it's in the low 20s, and sell it when it breaks 30 after that point. I think (big-- not as confident in these fatman suits) retail is a bit less risky than stuff like cruises to collapse totally.

If you want something more risky but with higher profit margin keep an eye on NOVN and buy if it drops back down to the mid-low $0.40 range tomorrow, since it's looking like it might. I feel like that one is a lock to get back to the $0.80 it was just at sometime in the next few months. Just be patient with it.

But you should probably just ignore me I haven't really made much money doing this. I'm pretty close to break even due to some early bad moves despite some good stuff.

Now if you want something that I think has good long term potential with high upside go with ATHX which is my real play and will make me look awesome sometime this year I think.

Half my money is in that right now. Granted I got in at $2.30 not $2.90 (I'd try to hold for $2.70 personally since it seems to be going from $2.70-$3.20 the past month) but I'm still holding all my shares. Seems like it has a lot of good news in the pipeline (there should be a trial result coming in the next week or two, and they're apparently looking good to get some BARDA support from the government) and a good backbone of funding. It's stem cell stuff that's heavily focused on ARDS It's potentially relevant to COVID treatment but also to other things.

While it has 'questionable' PR, at the same time it isn't going to spit a lot of empty hype like some of these other bio companies and make people lose faith in it before it hits something big.

Well, in fairness to them, it's not quite that simple when you are trying to sell tens of millions of shares. At that point, your own selling causes the price to go down if you do too much at once, so you can't just send a sell order at the market when the price is good.

Yeah I do know that, but you don't have to just do a mass sell either. Like they did have a ton of shares but with the volume that thing had you could probably piecemeal it out and get much better money.

Making a big cruise gamble.

so I reversed my strategy because of the coronavirus situation in Florida. Florida just had the two largest increases in daily cases yet.

The thought is one of two things is going to happen

  1. Florida has to reverse course and shut stuff down again. Travel stocks panix
  2. Corona keeps accelerating. Travel stocks panic.

The play: 10 July 17 $45 Puts of RCL.

Going to get out in the next two weeks to avoid the worst of the theta decay. Just need a few bad days in a row

Missed a 7% move in NCLH this morning from the open to now. Was eyeing it and didn't go forward because I would have to sell some other stock to get the funds for it. I guess it actually doesn't change much because all the travel stocks are correlated so I would have missed out on gain in a different travel stock if I had sold it to buy NCLH.

Earlier this morning it was looking quite ugly but now in the green for the day.

Sometimes when you see huge losses like that it's an accounting writedown, not real losses. Like when AOL Time Warner realized that the AOL side of the company was not worth $100 billion, but close to zero.

Speaking of crazy stocks, I got in BIOC at .82 today. Then, I sold it all because I saw another dip coming that I wanted to rebuy it at. Oh but guess what?

Since AVCT keeps plummeting my account is now below 25k, and I'm restricted on round trips. That was the only one I was allowed to do, and I'm completely unable to buy back in.

This is the absolute dumbest move I've ever made in the markets so far. Forget chasing AVCT (where I could have still sold it for like a 4k gain, so the real dumb move was not pulling the trigger on that). Literally forgetting the fucking rules and getting so used to being able to day trade that I'm locked out of a trade that would have me an unholy amount of money up right now.

I may need to take a break from trading before I make irrational, emotional decisions and lose all my gains.

So the reason I've disappeared from these topics lately is several weeks ago I decided I'd rather invest in myself than stock so I started a business. :O

Still getting off the ground so I don't really wanna talk about it yet but it's exciting stuff! Had a really tough setback 2-3 weeks in when a relative passed away unexpectedly. :( I came away from that feeling super unmotivated and like I'd just wasted a bunch of money that I wasn't going to end up doing anything good with. But I've come back out of that and am moving forward again. Here's to hopefully being my own boss a year (or two) from now!

Carnival is selling 6 cruise ships. The thing is, I can't imagine who would buy them at this time. No one is sailing and when it does resume, other cruise companies aren't going to need more ships for a while until demand picks up. Plus, instead of paying 3 billion minimum for 6 cruise ships, you could buy a controlling majority stake in NCLH. Like if you're a billionaire who wants to get into the cruise business, it seems way better to just buy NCLH rather than buy 6 ships from CCL.
