It depends on how they manage it. Are they self aware, ultimately keep it to themselvse, and want to be better? No negative action needs to be taken. Are they open and flamboyant about it? No one wants to be around that.

She was actively supporting racism and got what deserved for it. I have mixed opinions on this.

I'm old enough to have been on the internet long before social media caught on. The idea that what you say on the internet might come back and affect you in real life is still one that's strange to me. I'm so used to think that people are assholes on the internet because of anonymity then I see posts after stupid posts of people saying the dumbest thing with their name and face right next to it.

This is the world we live in now, if people really want to, they're going to be able to find stuff about you in real life from your posts on the internet. No need for hacking most of the time even. I'm not sure if I feel this is better as people are more accountable (though, sadly, it doesn't seem to have lessened shit posting) or if I preferred having a separation between both lives.

In the end, I guess I wouldn't go to the trouble of identifying or reporting those people but, so long as no actual laws are broken, I won't feel too horrible if their words come back to haunt them.

And if i was caught saying something dumb i usually faced consequences. Just because its easier to notice the dumb shit now doesn't mean i should feel bad for her having said it. If i walked outside right now and said "man fuck Floyd, stop talking about him" and got jumped that's my own fault. She knew what she was doing, she knew the potential consequences, and she expressed that she didn't care. The school she went to, who gave her a scholorsip and will be represented by her as an Alumni also has the right to know who they're letting in. Now that scholarship can go to someone who will represent them more respectfully...

Also, "we all said dumb shit" is a cop out. I can't recall being this ignorantly stupid with regard to race relations or every day events when i was 17. If a 17 year old robs someone and gets punished for it you wouldn't say "he's just a kid he didn't know"...she's old enough to know the potential consequences of this.
