Again, you are ignoring the fact that she posted this on the internet for the world to see. If she wants to say stupid shit to her friends at a mall, or write in a journal, or if she wants to say it behind closed doors with her family, fine. She didn't "know the consequences". There is no evidence that she assumed posting that was going to destroy her life. And her words aren't why we have riots, horrible actions are why we have riots. Mob justice against people like her is why we have Trump, and Trump is why we have such a shit country. So no I don't think empowering that justice helps things.

Again, I think this is much more of people being (justifiably) angry at a lot of the world, and so they want to watch those who are being shitbirds suffer/burn/etc, but if we tried to be constructive and objective I don't think this would actually be the thing most likely to help society. I think it might be the thing that feels the best for angry people, and I get that, but I honestly don't think it helps.

So if the goal is to feel good by being punitive to somebody with a shitty opinion, yes no mercy, no sympathy. If the goal is to help things get better, then call her out and disagree with her, but don't doxx/mob justice her out of her career/life.

Its kinda like going up to someone and saying hit me, then crying when you get hit. She accomplished what she said she wanted to do. She got people mad. With that came some consequences and those consequences didnt come from twitter people. They came from the job and school she represents choosing not to associate with her behavior anymore. Im also ok with that. The school doesnt have to give scholarships out. They are earned and with them comes responsibilities to said school. You already have to get chosen for a school. How is this any different? If they decide she is no longer worthy of upholding the standard they see fit for that scholarship, then its better off going to someone else who will. Plenty of people who deserve them dont get them. Scholarships arent a right theyre a privilege. She got it and pissed away her privilege. Now someone more deserving will get it.

now I am for strong tuition reform but that aspect doesnt really apply here.

I always find it hilarious when someone runs their mouth on social media or gets one of their old tweets pulled up from years ago and everything subsequently falls apart

I also think it's a bullshit argument to say they didn't know the consequences, everyone by now should be painfully aware that if you say some dumb shit that can be broadcasted across the world there's consequences, and if you're a celebrity who is being ruined by one of your old tweets you're also a dumbass for being stupid enough not to scrub your old social media posts ASAP after blowing up.

The idea that we don't actually care what people think so long as they "scrubbed" their history shows the problem.

This isn't really about people's idea's this is about mob justice and "catching" people. If it really was about justice and not just mob punishment of those we hate then it wouldn't matter if the person said the thing privately, or if they scrubbed it.

Just be honest with yourselves, this isn't about what right, this is about how the word is shitty right now and so it feels good to watch somebody with shitty opinions suffer, not because of justice or helping the world but out of pure schadenfreude.
