Yeah it started there and then they started tear gassing, flash banging and shooting us with rubber bullets. Then people started smashing windows.

It's worth noting that mob mentality in general tends to become a very simplistic form of "monkey see, monkey do". All you really need is for one group to hit critical mass, which in turn will provoke other groups to follow suit. In a world where pretty much everyone is plugged in to the Internet at all times and information can circle the world a dozen times before you put on your shoes in the morning, it wouldn't take long at all for one spark to trigger an immediate and rapid response.

Basically, when humans gather in groups - whether physically or ideologically - we tend to get stupider and more emotional.
