A user, by the name of ThatGuy4913 who supposedly wrote a Persona 2 walkthrough on gamefaqs is now asking for it to be REMOVED because he's now a BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN and the values he now has goes against everything the game represents..such as demons and DEATH and no longer supports or play video games that goes against god's rules in life..

He claims he agreed to the site rules that every faq is to remain on the site once you write it but is asking for an exception..

Should his demands be met?

Whether this is real or not, the FAQ should stay up. The only time an FAQ should be removed is if its quality is deemed to be exceptionally poor. Like, if the I formation present in the FAQ is patently false, or if it's conveyed so poorly that most human beings wouldn't be able to parse it in a legible way.

If the FAQ is good, leave it up. He can go and bark up some fundie lawyer's asshole if he wants it removed, because there's no way in hell that an online game guide is going to be removed on the grounds of religious freedom.

Its a pretty reasonable request and this site has no business giving him a hard time about it. Its his hard work, they just profit off of it. Although, this reminds me of why I never made a FAQ for this site.

They pay 500 dollars for guides of brand-new games. I know that's not the best rate for such a big undertaking but it is something

They didnt way back then. It would be a different discussion now but back in the day we just wrote them out of love for the game. I helped a few of those efforts way back then.

This site was successful because of peoples contributions and the community the developed from it. Its the least they can do and no one really uses FAQs anyways.

I was under the impression that authors could remove their guides at anytime, unless it was used to claim a bounty. Then you essentially sold your work to gamefaqs for whatever bounty they paid you. Is that not right?

Unless the author agrees to make it an official "GameFAQs guide", which is done only under FAQ Bounty circumstances, then the author still retains ownership of their work and can ask it to be removed at any time.

From the Bounty Page:

• For Bounties under $500, you still own your FAQ and the copyright on it, but you are giving CBS Interactive a non-exclusive perpetual license to your FAQ, which means that it will be displayed permanently on GameFAQs (unless GameFAQs removes it), including any current or future partner sites, and you may not request its removal.
• For Bounties of $500 and over, you will be required to sign a GameFAQs Contributor Agreement assigning ownership of your FAQ to CBS Interactive, which means that CBS Interactive exclusively owns your FAQ (i.e., can use or otherwise exploit your FAQ in any manner) and you cannot license it to any other site or medium, but you may use it on your own blog or website so long as such blog or website is not competitive to CBS Interactive as determined in CBS Interactive's reasonable discretion.

I can't say for sure if this is the case for the P2 walkthrough.

I dont see why. I am of the Christian religion and am fine with persona. I don't believe god banned video games at all. That is the person's choice I guess, to feel bad over it. I'm sure that assuming he's a good Christian god will forgive him for this faq

It says in the guide on the 2nd page that he submitted the FAQ under the Bounty Program. So that is indeed the case.

I've never played the Persona games so it doesn't really affect me but I'd understand if they didn't want to remove it seeing as they paid money for it. But if they grant his request I would understand too. Dude doesn't want his name attached to it or the game anymore (despite however ridiculous I think his reasons are) and this doesn't happen often (that I'm aware of).

Is there a way to remove his name from the guide? Maybe just assign it to Allen or something and remove all mention of the original author? That way the guide stays up and his name isn't attached in any way anymore.

I wouldn't know that. i only did FAQs for games I loved, but that's pretty interesting they can't be removed by the author.

Then the only party that can remove it from the site is GameFAQs, and if he purposely sabotages his guide so that it's unusable, then that's where GameFAQs will have cause to remove it for lack of quality.

Or maaaaaybe get into some litigation? Still, it's such a small amount that it probably won't be worth CBSI's time to pursue and they'll just drop the guide.

The site will no doubt refuse to accept guides from him again, though.

It's funny. In the "lower than 500" category, the author can sabotage the guide all they want. In the "higher than 500" category, if the author tried that, they wouldn't have ownership of their guide, so GameFAQs can just refuse to accept the update and leave it as is.

As I've stated, it's odd that GameFAQs would settle for a situation where the author couldn't ask for the guide to be removed yet could still sabotage it. (Bounty guide under $500)

I guess they figured no one would actually do it.

Could result in some policy shifts down the line.

EDIT: I should point out that the author hasn't actually sabotaged the guide to the point of it not being usable. You can use the "Next Page" function to move between the sections of the guide. It's just that the links in the Table of Contents are now broken (something I've yet to figure out how was done).
