Itll probably be something we deal with alongside the flu for many years or decades to come with how contagious it seems to be

as for the stay at home measures I think a lot will depend on what happens in the fall. If it comes back in a big way then weve got some tough decisions to make as a society

Georgia hasnt had any significant change in numbers per day since their slow re-open (they had a horrible Monday)

Ohio & South Carolina are about the same

Colorado's made some progress thou

States with higher populations need to keep their eye on how Texas will do over the next week or so

Then one of three things will happen
1. Other states will adopt successfully reopened states measures and their phase plans will move forward

2. Reopened states will have the same numbers as they did before loosening restrictions which will lead to the continuation of demanding freedom vs staying at home

3. The reopened states fail, numbers increase and those states that were cautious about reopening too soon will remain in lockdown

Tl;dr - Its up to individual states, their policies and whether they can "flatten the curve" before moving forward

Edit - Yeah, it'll probably continue to be a thing until a vaccine is made

I heard that a vaccine could take like 18 months to get started and 10 years for approval.

Just think you'd be like 10 years older when you can start living like a decent civilized person again.

But it's all nonsense.

I mean hell they haven't even figured out how to stop people from getting all the other flu symptoms.

it could potentially take 18 months to develop a safe vaccine but after that the only delay will be production

theyre already doing clinical trials which is the most time consuming aspect of the whole process

There is another factor,... if it spread too far and mutates then the vaccine will be rendered ineffective every few generations, like the regular flu. Sure new vaccine variants will be developed (like the flu shot), but a permanent solution will no longer be available. (like Small Pox)

As I understand, a number of vaccine candidates are aiming to be easily modifiable to adapt to new strains in the future, operating under the presumption that coronaviral infections will continue to be a major problem moving forward. That should in theory, make coming up with one for the current SARS of the month about as easy as it is to come up with each year's new flu shot.

yep that could happen no matter what, it depends on if the virus mutates as frequently as the flu does

It obviously will.

Like I mean the country can't get locked down 3 or 4 months out of the year every year from now on when it shows peaks.

It's just gonna become a thing we have to live and maybe die with.

It will continue to be thing for the indefinite future but we will be able to relax countermeasures when a vaccine is developed. Until then, expect changes and disruptions to the pre-pandemic routine.

Hopefully, Gilead's Remdesivir establishes a good standard of care for those that suffer severe respiratory illness due to COVID..

Okay, looking back 2 weeks to the States that took the first steps of reopening

Georgia have done horribly with more per day cases, Ohio and S.Carolina are about the same while Colorado have about halved the number of new cases per day

Whatever Colorado is doing, keep it up

New York and New Jersey are doing so much better also... and unfortunately Illinois missed the memo on the virus as they're about to be the new US hot spot

No it's been 2 weeks for nail salons, bowling alleys and barber shops. If I recall correctly, Friday will mark one week for restaurants but most still arent opening their dining rooms anyway. Also, even though a lot of these businesses are open I dont think there will be a huge spike in because most people are still staying away from them.

This lockdown is dumb and pointless though because people are still allowed to fly internationally and giant corporate stores like Walmart are open and are more than likely where most folks get it
