Also at like 200 yellow certs now, kind of tempted to go for Hoshiguma since I have no 6* Defender, but I'm leaning more towards saving for Angelina/Saria/Siege. Or I could just save them for Headhunting Permits...Blaze looks nice, not sure how soon she is.

I haven't felt the need to even E1 my Hoshiguma (so naturally, she's the bitch that spooks me the most).

I wouldn't buy her.

The medic-type defenders like Saria/Nearl/Gummy are generally way more useful, and Cuora does the job well enough for pure blocking.

Saria is really useful. Her healing makes her a lot more self-sufficient. I love how her second skill heals such a huge area, plus gives SP like Ptilopsis. She's a tanky owl girl :3

also on the subject of Arknights, EX-7 has been giving me a ton of trouble, even following a playthrough as best I can doesn't work. It's hard to tell if I'd be best off investing my Sanity into further upgrades for my main teams, leveling unused operators to try and replicate strats other people have done, or risking it on Challenge modes for other event stages.
I've managed to finish all the challenge stages though I ended up using a gimmicky Liskarm setup for CM EX-7 (Brawlers supercharge her SP production so I could spam (Friend) Angelina S3 more often). That being said the shop also kinda ran out of OP exchange packages at level 60 so there's nothing much left to save OP for except costumes I guess, so that's less pressure to do the challenge stages at all lol
I feel like generally investing sanity into upgrading your main team would have the better overall payoff, while some units are featured often in online guides due to accessibility and relative usefulness ultimately with a strong enough team and tweaks you can somewhat work similar strategies - ie Durnar features in a lot of the latest event stage guides but I've never touched her

And some of these challenge modes are pretty silly, some like EX-2 in particular seem to just be based on exploiting how dumb the AI can be...that's kind of a problem I have in general with Arknights, is that some stages seem to be nonsensically difficult until you realize some other solution. EX-3 is another one, there's a beefy enemy that walks on a path that you can't deploy any melee operators on to block him; the solution is to use Rope and pull him onto actual tiles.
Yeah some of the map layouts and AI pathways are inherently annoying, especially the block placement ones (CB-EX5 in particular) in since you need to experiment a bit to see which layouts work best for your strategy and sometimes successive enemies go through different paths and you can't just funnel them through your space because that blocks all the exits or something.
I didn't use Rope for the stage you mentioned (EX4?), I think I just brute forced with my snipers and casters pretty much though I did have to try a few times to get it right
The PRTS website (https://map.ark-nights.com/map/) does show enemy pathways (Click the arrows near the top-right to advance) so you can plan out in advance but yeah it isn't the most elegant solution to the problem lol

Blaze is def one of the Tier 0 operators worth saving for, I think she's supposed to be released with Chapter 6 so that should be somewhat soon.

Holy ballsack, been doing story progression and err... Ch 11 is just straight up cancer. So there are 3 mobs as far as I can tell

  1. A robot dog thing with Sigurd's range/move that inflicts bind on its normal freaking attack
  2. A Shion ranged unit/move that disarms on its first attack
  3. A Sigurd ranged unit that does a ton of damage and can kill a squishy from full hp with its ult
Yeah, these are just mobs, and they have too much hp to one shot with my current setup. To make things worse, there are summoning panels that infinitely spawn #2 EVERY TURN. Meaning if you don't plug it up amidst a constant assault of units somehow, you'll have at least one of your unit disarmed every turn.

On top of that, the mission is making me use like non-Fran units lol... so I'm not fighting at my full strength (I at least wanna unlock Celeste).

Also maybe hot take maybe obvs, Yoori kinda sucks. She's too squishy, she only has 2 movement, she needs too many requirements to do damage, and her ult takes way too many turns for being kinda meh. If she was at least tanky, I could accept her other faults. Or if she was a 3 mov unit, I can accept her squishiness. But all of those above are just too much

yeah, in particular I'm thinking about Vigna (who seems to have better DPS than proper Vanguards for the same cost), and Ethan (who occupies his own weird niche since he can stop melee enemies without having to take hits from them, which seems almost essential on EX-2 CM). I've been kind of disappointed with Platinum too, the extended range usually isn't a huge difference maker and her DPS isn't amazing, even with her 2nd skill activated. Seems like lower rarity Snipers can often work just as well or even better in the short term.

also really starting to wish I had Myrtle, hopefully I roll her before CC comes around.

And it looks like there is a lv 70 OP exchange pack, actually.

Ugh, there's a map like that I'm stuck on (CB-EX4), where every guide so far involves push/pull BS to kill half of the mobs.

And no auto push/pull either, but pixel perfect manual skill use or you're dead.

I've gotten Top Operator four times, and three of those times were, ironically, Hoshiguma. Never touched her though, mostly out of annoyance/resentment, lol.

oh right, EX4 was the one I was thinking of, not 3. Working on the challenge mode for that now, it makes it harder to fit in Rope and the playthrough I saw involved using Shirayuki to break the one guy's Arts shield, but I don't have her leveled because I've been using Meteorite instead...hm.

IIRC you had Zima so I might prioritize her instead over Vigna, Zima at least has block 2 and is tankier which can help buy time for additional DPS units to do work. Ethan does seem interesting but he's also apparently a worse Manticore... Of course Manticore is also much harder to roll for

I feel like that's the general trend for most different-server games, at least for these CN ones. CN has to make new content while Global/EN has a stockpile they can burn through more immediately so their release schedule is comparatively accelerated. Of course in Arknights' case both servers came online relatively close to each other (CN 1 May 2019, EN/G 16 January 2020) so the release schedule may not be as noticeably accelerated. Nian came out in January for CN so maybe we can expect her in a couple months, unless they decide to save her for EN's New Years or something.

Ethan is particularly useful for the EX2 Challenge because the challenge condition boosts melee enemy attack to absurd levels so you're basically restricted to just ranged operators, and he's a rare way of stopping enemies from moving (on top of having an AoE attack).

I think Vigna is used because cheap DPS is more important thank tankiness/block. I'll have to play with it more tomorrow, one strategy that sounded good was just using Gravel to eat the tornadoes

... Ch 12 is impossible. I'm actually trying to prioritize beating the stages over the missions and just accepting that I can't do some of them right now. But it's actually just... way too hard. Enemies still do the disarm bs AND now they explode for % hp dmg at such a big range. You can avoid them by being behind a wall, but not every stage has a wall big enough, and the enemies have such big movement range that it doesn't even matter. This is just bs. I managed to get Celeste in the last ch at least, but... this is a kind of wall that I dunno if I can pass without a few weeks of team improvement.

All I can say is, I kinda think I should've gone with Ling's Forbidden weapon first. Her shield and Nightingale's healing might be a pre-req. I like Helen's weapon a lot but it's actually not killing things fast enough atm

I still haven't cleared chapter 7 in Battle Divas yet, but from what I've been reading, it sounds like things get a lot tougher in the story later on.

Also, I saw on the official Facebook page that Kagura Mai is going to be the next character to have a dedicated banner. I don't have her yet, and I haven't even touched her in Infinite War yet either. Is she worth spending some gems on to see if I can get a couple of her weapons or maybe a completed equipment set? Or should I wait until someone else gets the focus?

Depends on how many gems you have I guess. It's always worth going all in on one banner eventually I think, but you have to look at her sets first. Her range is kinda meh imo because it's so easy for her to not be able to attack. But if her set does some crazy support stuff where you get invincible for 5 turns or some shit then she's probably gonna be the best unit ever

So did some digging around, and I'm guessing people are all collectively doing some main story progression right now, because I see a whole lot of complaints on the fb group for this game lols. People are stuck anywhere from ch 8 to 13 (at least if they got that far, they've enjoyed the game til then). Supposedly Ch 13 is somehow even worse, and people legit whaling on the game can't even beat it. If you guys tried Fran's Core Weapon stage for fun, I'm guessing that's what it is. Helen's Core Weapon stage is about Ch 12-3ish lvl of difficulty I would say. It's not impossible, but it feels impossible to keep everybody alive til Helen.

They have a developer's note where they address some of the problems like stamina issues or account linking, but nothing about the difficulties yet. Yoori is getting a set that makes her... not able to normally attack? Considering Fran and Fuma's exclusive sets, usually they're op, so... I'm guessing it's gonna be good

It's cool to always have something to work towards I guess? But I'd rather those be like side content or like a boss event that are entirely optional over something that directly affects the base power level of my team. Poor Frannie gonna stay 2* for a while.

Oh I did get a helpful tip though. Equip any equipment with healing effect % on Nightingale. The Angel's Sanctuary set that I believe is handed out to everybody? will essentially boost her healing by 1.8x or so

?!?! Ok so I just noticed the exchange shop has Kagura's next set effect, which is at the start of the turn, increase her attack by 100, if the buff exceeds 2 stacks, it will trigger an additional attack after releasing an ultimate and consumes 2 stack.

Turn 2 aoe invincibility lmfao. I swear I was just joking about the 5 turn invinc thing. I think if you roll this set, it's pretty sick

Oh =_= nvm her weapon replaces her ult with something dumb. Though cd 1? Does that mean on turn 2 she can use her ult twice? Maybe it's not bad, I dunno

Ugh, CB-EX 6 in Arknights is impossible. That's the second fucking time this game has put out an event that can't be finished as F2P.

One more strike like this and I'm dropping it, I've run out of patience for shitty mob/map design while on a time limit.

The problem for me is that even some video guides aren't viable for F2P, like 99% of the ones for this map expect you to have a E1 max potential Mousse (a not so easily obtained *4). And the *one* guide I found that doesn't use her? She was replaced by a goddamn E1 maxed Ifrit.

I can't even begin to imagine how fucked CB-EX 7&8 are if we've reached the point where non-freebie *4 and above are the minimum bar for entry now.

Also EX-7 was terribad, and 8 is horrific. Im still working on the latter :((

Yeah, Aigis never had quite anything as bad as the Rat King. And even if it did, it had a suitable amount of free units that would've countered him.

Last event's problem was the shitty enemy design. gg snipers that can stun your units for over 10 seconds

This event's problem is definitely the shitty map design and enemy pathing. It's bad enough that they bar you from properly blocking the multiple exits of each map, but then they put convoluted spawns and paths for each enemy. And then the Rat King deliberately shits on everyone's roster since having too many units leveled can fuck up your runs. I was lucky to get away with aggroing him on EX7 with an unleveled Red.

Like those large fuckers that zig-zag and loop around all over the place, and then you need to stack Defenders to actually stop them, and oh by the way, they're damage sponges, physical or arts damage.

You know shit is getting ridiculous when you need to commit 4+ Operators to dealing with one mob. Not a boss, but a fucking mook that spawns almost a dozen times per map.

Yeah there were some pretty jank stuff in other events and maps too, where the solution was just ignore defending certain paths because no enemy was gonna pass through that. How was I supposed to know? There are also things like Annihilation, where honestly, there's no feasible way to trial and error that because it's so damn long. I know it's not the hardest content but has anybody here actually 400'd the 3rd one without looking up a step-by-step guide?

I think the more complex the game, the more clarity the game needs to give in return. Arknights needed a really comprehensive in-game guide on all of its levels where the paths are clearly defined, and the enemy stats are more than just grades and their abilities aren't hidden til you just have to ram your head against them to figure out what they do.
