ok i live in R.I. and i am close to swansea MA where i usually get tobacco bags and cigarette filters but nothing is open.

for others that smoke cigarette's this way, what kind of option do you have of getting this stuff?

i looked on amazon and there's no tobacco bags in site, just the filters for $25 for 5 boxes which is expensive for them compared to buying them in stores.

just looking for alternatives and some ideas as what to do at this point.

i heard that liquor stores are considered essential because of alcohol addiction, but the same should be said for smoke shops. when the many years i've been rolling and going in these kinds of stores there's never a crowd of 5 or more. sometimes there's one other person, but in most cases when i go in these stores i would be the only one.

i am not the most knowledgeable of things, so i am trying to figure things out. thank you.

Glad the ones in my area are still open they're all owned by the same guy but oddly you can enter one and stand around but the other one is curbside only. So I feel for you TC but just try gas stations or grocery stores.

On this little bit, people who have been drinking a long time can literally die from withdrawals but you can't die from not having a smoke.

yeah i see where you're coming from. however i have been smoking tobacco since i was 15, 27 now. it would be such a long and hard process to quit. nearly every hour of the day i smoke 2-4 one after the other, just because rolling tobacco offers much more quantity to smoke. also from what i read, rolled tobacco doesn't have all of the chemicals that packs do, so its 'somewhat' of a safer alternative.

i am also not putting down the fact that liquor stores are still open, as i like to drink as well. alcoholism runs on both sides of my family, and there was one time i really had to quit which was extremely difficult for that first month, then a year and a half later i started drinking again from that one point and its not as excessive as it once was. if i had a job and was earning money i would probably be drinking every night, but i've never had a job yet.

i have asperger's, i haven't been out much since i left school years ago. but i do enjoy my smokes and drinks.

i feel like an unhealthy p.o.s. because of it, but i'm so glad liquor stores are still open where i'm at

lately i've been stressed to the point where even the strongest of indica (weed that makes people tired & relaxed) smoke alone can't really put me to sleep. i've been smoking indica AND going through a half-gallon of 94% proof gin every 3 days. i usually wake up before work feeling like shit every other 2nd or 3rd night, but at least i'm somewhat well-rested once i get over that feeling

otherwise, i'd up for 21 hours at a time on non-workdays & giving myself only 2-3 (or less) hours of sleep a night on the days where i do work

and to think the gov (in most places in the U.S., at least) thinks living like an alkie is essential behavoir in need of national support.... yet psilocybin, LSD, DMT & the classic marijuanos is (in several u.s. states still, at least) still illegal as fuck & unjustifiably feared & misunderstood by waayyyy too many people out there for how much into the future we are... or at least think we are, anyway

Pretty much. A bunch of cranky smokers isn't a genuine problem. A bunch of seizing alcoholics at a time when ER's are already overwhelmed is. I personally think it'd be a lot better to use this opportunity to wean alcoholics off of their dependencies by offering rehab services with controlled dosing, rather than endangering people by keeping liquor stores open, but that does require more planning and infrastructure than is really feasible to slap together mid-crisis, and declaring liquor stores essential is an adequate alternative plan.

Most supermarkets don't sell smoking stuff, but you can get them at convenience stores and/or gas stations. A smoke shop is basically just a store devoted to nothing but smoking, usually for the specialty stuff since the places that do sell smoking stuff only have limited stock.

Anyways, from what I have seen the smoke shops here are open, at least their "open" signs are blinking. I never see anyone parked in front of them or shopping in them (and I don't smoke) so I wouldn't know.

Oddly enough, comic shops are considered essential as well, mine is still open although they haven't gotten any new comics from the distributors in almost a month.

What state(or Canadian province, or wherever) do you live, where comic book stores were allowed to stay open? In Illinois, they weren't considered an essential business(I know, since I read over the whole text of the IL governor's orders) and all such stores have had to temporarily close for now. Though recently I found a mom and pop newsstand that somehow is still open, and am surprised they are considered an essential business myself! I'm sure that store hasn't gotten any new magazines, comics, etc. for weeks or like a month now(whenever the closings all started to occur in March), though. The other day I went by there while doing a bike ride, and saw they had a sign saying 'limit 5 people inside the store at a time, and to limit your visit to no more than 5 minutes inside, to allow as many people an opportunity to visit as possible'.

I mean, it's not that implausible. If you still charge them for the liquor they drink, you're not spending any money on that (if anything, being the only salespeople in town, you might get wholesale discounts on it), so you're just looking at the manpower and possibly the cost of renting a space if you can't find a shut-down business to volunteer. It's the organization that would be the real challenge, since you'd need enough locations to prevent alcoholics from having to crowd together as well as to ensure that they can all get to one despite not being able to drive back and not being able to get rides with friends.

It could be done, and would probably actually save money in the long run due to less medical costs, but as I said, it'd be complicated. Leaving liquor stores open is much simpler and also makes everyone else that's stuck at home happier.

To be fair, this wouldn't be full-on prohibition, just a few months of liquor stores being closed. By the time anyone got desperate enough to start bootlegging, they'd be open again.

How is a comic shop "essential" when bedding stores are forced to close even though people are forced to stay at home?
