So I rode my bike over to this little grocery store during my break at work to get some snacks and after an uneventful 3 minute ride lock up my bike in front. Some old crone comes up to me and says "You need to pay more attention to what you're doing, I nearly hit you back there" waving vaguely towards the parking lot with a nasty look on her face.

Taken slightly off guard I just asked what she was talking about but she ignored me and went into the store. That was her fatal mistake. If she had just explained herself I might have let it slide but ignoring me after a quip like that? I followed her in and said again louder, "So are you going to elaborate because I don't remember any close calls on the way here." She scoffed and I continued with my classic 180 attitude change "Are you sure you weren't seeing things you senile old bitch? You're certainly too old to be driving but I don't know if your brain is literally rotting yet."

She stopped in her tracks but didn't dare say a word back as I went about my shopping normally. I don't care who it is, man, woman, child, old husk, anyone who comes at me wrong is going to get the same treatment until they learn not to mess with me.

Pretty much. Had a guy locally who was screaming at a lady in a store parking lot and a someone came over and just. slammed him down to the ground. Cops came but no one was arrested. The woman was more upset than anyone else.

No idea what started it but I know what ended it

If she had simply behaved like a civilized human being, no doubt she would have been treated like one, instead of an ugly old bitch inside and out.

Doesn't matter what you look like, where you come from, how you dress, or what you believe in, if you act like shit, you're going to get treated like shit.

In situations like these, the cause tends to be an inability to perceive the difference in scope between one person's awareness and reactivity, and one's self's. It doesn't make any sense for a young person to have the exaggerated safety zones that are vital for an elderly person to compensate for weak muscles and dull nerves, yet since it's natural to default to using one's own perception of the world to judge others by, it's easy for an elderly person to mistakenly perceive a problem from the behavior of a healthy and alert young person.

Due to the hostile nature of the initial exchange, and the apparent attempt to avoid the repercussions of her actions, the stern reprisal is entirely justified IMO.
