Not only is it ridiculous, but it does cheapen Vader's sacrifice and redemption imo. I think most people acknowledge this, but we also accept Palpatine's role in this movie because it's hard to think what any writer could have done after Snoke was killed off (neither Kylo nor Hux could have carried a final installment as the big baddie). The pieces were there and were so easy to pick up and play that way. They've never done a good job conveying that Rey/Luke were actually tempted by the dark side. For both of them, we assume it can happen only because The Emperor said it would happen. There was nothing convincingly pulling them in that direction. SaveEstelle 12/22/19 6:21:18 AM #109:	The thing with Star Wars is like, and this is especially true given how much weve seen them interact physically with their environments in VIII and IX, but when Jedi with certain knowledge become Force spirits I barely consider them dead. They can only really seem to commune/converse with Force sensitives afterward but their consciousness clearly remains intact and they get to hop, skip, and jump wherever the fuck they wish and watch over corporeality. They become Star Treks Q race or something. Sounds pretty sweet. So while I get that itll forever remain contentious that the sequels killed off Luke and Leia at age 53, I barely even consider that a thing. Especially with the way that Leia smartly screwed things up for Palpatine by just immediately noping out of the flesh to break Bens slavery to the dark side. In my mind, Han is really the only one of the OG three whos truly dead as dirt. It feels like I have a somewhat unique perspective but whatevs. Anyway, The Rise of Skywalker is pretty sloppy in some places but an interesting enough celebration of Star Wars despite itself. As the end of a nine-part saga it kind of sucks, so dont view it the way that marketing wants you to. As the end of a companion piece, a sequel trilogy set 30+ years after the originals, it works well enough. I like the cast far more than the prequel cast so I like the movie more than Revenge of the Sith for sure. It isnt as good as Return of the Jedi though. Meaning that each OT film remains superior to each ST film, though each ST film remains superior to each PT film. I can live with that. The Last Jedi is probably the best sequel flick. --- Hi! I have no problem with the idea of Rey being related to Palpatine - to me it was actually a pretty interesting role reversal for the hero to be related to the previous villain while the villain was related to the previous heroes - but like so much of this movie it felt forced. No pun intended? My two biggest problems with this film were Palpatine's return being poorly set up and the way exposition was handled, with the same abundance of shot reverse shots as the prequels and Rogue One only this time they felt completely rushed. Fix up those two and this movie probably improves quite a lot. The pacing in this movie is the worst I think I've ever seen in something so high budget. Just a ton of missteps in producing this trilogy leading to this. Most of those flaws come from it feeling like they needed to A) invent large parts of this trilogy's plot, and B) remove random parts of The Last Jedi.
