The second half of the game just blows, tomb of the Giants completely dark with steep ledges and only two items in the game that make light outside of a spell. The crystal caves with its invisible walkways. The area before bed of chaos is just lazy and the bed of chaos itself. I could go in way more but everything after Anor Londo is just meh.

what "hyper defense"? most people say the last half is a lot weaker than the first half. but the good parts are really really good, and the game is almost endlessly playable.

DS1's second half is garbage, but it more than makes up for it with an incredible first half and outstanding DLC content. That and I'd rather go through the second half of DS1 twenty times than suffer through DS2 again.

The boss fights are great, but Royal Woods is just Darkroot Garden in the daytime, and Oolacile and the Abyss are terrible areas.

I'll give you Royal Wood, but I cannot agree for a second that Oolacile Township and Chasm of the Abyss are terrible.

No the going after 2 without really explaining why when the first game is brought up. I guess a better topic subject would have been the blind hatred of dark souls 2. I never get real reasons just "it's teh worst"

There are a lot of things Dark Souls 2 did well, but excluding the DLC, level design wasn't one of them

The levels were so much more fleshed out and didn't feel as samey, also had a lot better variety of bosses, you fight three versions of the asylum demon in the first

I'm pretty sure we didn't play the same game.

Because the Dark Souls 2 I played had three versions of the same Dragon Rider and two instances of rehashed Dark Souls 1 fights - but worse.

I'm not even saying that is an issue though, just pointing out that your argument about the asylum demon is irrational.

I think the DLC I Dark Souls 2 is great all around.

Ignoring the DLC, I also think it has a lot of great bosses.

It's just easy to forget the stand outs in the midst of some of the lamer ones, especially since one of the lame ones is the final boss.

I'd argue that Dark Souls 2's second half is also weak in general. Dranglaic castle is pretty good, but everything after that has a LOT of wasted potential, and Scholar of the First Sin only made it worse.

Dark Souls 1s second half has issues but at least there was variety and the level design wasn't boring linear (outside of Izalith, but at least there's a good scene with Onionbro and again, SOME variety with the lava walking.)

DkS2 combat was just DkS combat but floatier and loads of mobs thrown at you.

The map is incohesive, themed purely to introduce different mobs and has no natural flow to it.

The plot is completely bunk giving basically no reason to progress except because it is a game.

It's also worth noting that it's not a bad game, but it's definitely a bad souls game.

Well, I can't really argue with that point, however i feel like facing off with Gwyn is much more climactic and satisfying from a lore and spectacle perspective than some ghoulie queen that wasn't really set up that well.

Arguably Demon's Souls' last boss is better than both of them and is even lamer from a gameplay perspective.

Playing it for the first time, I was mesmerized by the level design. The way you can see each level far off in the distance, connected to other levels in very clever and unexpected way. Big seamless world.

Somewhere online, a guy meticulously build a 3D rendering of what the entire world looks like when you fit it all together. It was pretty awesome. How deep Lost Izalith is. How deep the Four Kings abyss is.

Some really good DLC as well.

But gankers and multiplayer in general was literal hell.

I had the opposite problem... sort of.

I've never been able to get Dark Souls 1 multiplayer to work, and it still doesn't work in the Remaster... I don't even have the same COMPUTER!

But the ONE TIME I got an invader, it was a toon named FunTimeisOver (or something like that) and he teleported me under the Abyss and set my level to 666 and all my stats to 1.

cuz the game had zero hack protection

ok, I do agree that complaints about DS2 are exaggerated. depending what you're looking for, 2 is arguably the best of the three. it has by far the most character variability, and is also a much longer game, especially taking DLC into account.

I didn't like it at first either. It has easily the most frustrating combat. The level design part I don't care about all that much. Its levels feel "video gamey" whereas DS1 and DS3 have such artistically amazing levels, but it's not that big a deal. the first half of DS1 had the "intricate pathways that interconnect areas in unexpected ways" thing, but it's not that important (maybe artistically).

It has more items, more levels, and really just more gameplay than the other two.

if you download this wulf mod for the original dark souls

you can actually see an table of who is online and what level they are
if there aren't any people left to invade you basically have to quit the game and reload it
because the game doesn't care what level the people are in the table
so reloading it typically gives you new people who haven't been invaded yet

Getting ready to do the dlc for the first game never had it before the remastered version. Played all the dlc for 2 and 3 only boss I haven't beaten in any of the games is Darkeater Midir from the ringed city dlc

I beat Midir by myself it was very difficult
it helped me to think of him like a dog or something also RUN!!
