Unless you are also friends with her husband, probably not a great idea.

One of my best friends is an ex who got married. Her husband is great, and I know there's no chance of attraction because we tried it once and it ended in a trainwreck.

I think as long as there's no chance of having feelings go for it

There's a massive amount of extra context needed to evaluate a situation like that.

I feel like if you need to ask, you already suspect that one of you, the wife, or the husband would be uncomfortable with this, and thus it's a bad idea.

So the moment one of your female friends gets married, you can't be friends with her anymore? Or you just can't be friends with any female co-worker who are already married?

Surprised at these results, but some people do tend to be out of touch.

That doesn't seem to be the implication of the question.

Good idea. If the husband has a problem with it, then that sounds like his problem. I wouldn't tell my wife she can't be friends with a man. She's an adult who can make her own decisions. If i didn't think she could, then I don't see why I'd have married her.

Anyway, responses are what I expected. Although the poll responses don't really follow.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I wouldn't say it's a "good idea". Just neutral.

I would say that unless you're close friends with the husband, hanging out with just the two of you is a bad idea though. Not that her husband has to be there but go with a group imo

It isn't. Those who are responding negatively seem to mostly be assuming additional context.

Look, you're adults, you can be friends with people of any marital status with no difference whatsoever. If there's trouble that is on the individuals involved.

yeah, that's why people voted no. it's one thing to be friends with them, another to go "man, if only she wasn't married," yet another for her to go "man, if only i wasn't married," and still a different level to ask this specific question, where friendship is on the line, because that just means one of you is that emotionally invested. at this point, the answer is no.

You can be friends with a woman without wanting to fuck her. It's nothing shocking, unless you're completely out of touch with the real world.

Because the only reason to be friends with a woman is to have sex with her and she's married.

Clearly.

I don't understand why people have trouble with having female friends and not being able to keep feelings at just friends. Women seem to have no problem friendzoning men but it seem whenever it's discussed in reverse, a lot of men have trouble just being friends with a woman.

The answer is yes it's perfectly fine to be friends with a married woman unless there's ulterior motives involved.

I can get behind that. I'm still friends with exs, including my ex wife, and there's zero chance I would go back to any of them.

Which is fine, but saying there is 0 chance of attraction when it already happened is just logically unsound.

That's not what I said? Or at least not what I was trying to say. I was trying to talk about developing romantic feelings for them. I still find her attractive looks wise, but neither of us will ever develop feelings for each other. It's at the point now where we are strictly friends and the thought of us ever dating again makes us laugh. We talk all the time about how we really should have never dated in the first place.

Sorry if I was unclear.

yeah, this

in principle, you're adults, you can be friends with anyone regardless of marital status, it's not difficult

but specifically Menji is making this poll so he probably has reasons it's a bad idea

Being friends with married people is great. They're not freaking out about dating anymore, so they often want to live vicariously through you
