Would a list of draftable characters be provided beforehand or is it on each participant to research who were the team members and draft accordingly?

Also based on post #5 I guess there's no villains, it's really just the heroes that were on those teams? Though when I last read X comics (the Onslaught arc which was... 96, 97?) Mystique and Sabretooth were technically part of X-Factor...

I'm open for bans. Franklin is a confirmed ban, and if anyone has other suggestions, let me know.

Super-slow is my plan. Everyone will have an hour from the previous pick to make their own, and I was thinking that rounds would only take place between 10 and 10 eastern or something similar. Also, if you want, I would be willing to take PMs with shortlists of picks in case people can't be around.

I'm open to whatever, really.

We probably don't need any more bans, but I'm not creative enough to think of how to defeat some of the omegas/ mind controllers without some of the villains that are specifically immune to mind control

Maybe by having a mind controller of your own to battle them

There are actually so many ridiculous xmen that it's hard to draw a banline beyond franklin.

X-man is similar to cable, and hope summers is pretty ridiculous as well, and we're not even getting into magneto/iceman/Jean grey

X-man has telekinetic powers on the level of Dark Phoenix along with basically every psychic power ever at the highest level, including the ability to turn into energy.

The problem with banning some of these people is that they only operate at the speed of thought, and they aren't technically omnipotent. I would be on board with banning Hope and X-Man if there was a significant amount of pushback against them, but I don't necessarily think they need to be banned. You can work around them.

Oh I was going to ask if it was a snake style draft or not.

I feel like I could assemble a convincing-enough team but the "readable as the focus of a comic series", that's the trickier part..

There are a lot of pros and cons to every character when it comes to the Readability category. Some popular characters are completely spent in terms of being interesting characters and lots of minor characters have tons of potential as stars.

I just noticed Legion is on the list and I think he needs to be kicked for the same reason as Franklin Richards - reality manipulation. Due to his psychological conditions he doesn't have full control of that, but I can think of some team compositions to skirt around that limitation.

Sorry, but for some reason I'm taking this thing way more serious than I should and I want as many characters as possible to be in this but reality manipulation is where I think the line has to be drawn. Once you can make the argument that you can just blink the opposing team out of existence there is no chance for any balance.

Edit: I also think due to their hive-mind nature the Cuckoos should be dropped. They may be separate bodies but they are a singular mind.

Omega-Level Mutants:

Iceman - Guy may have the abilities as demonstrated by Emma Frost, but he's never really reached full potential on his own. Keep that in mind in a fight. In.

Elixir - Has enough limitations that I don't think he needs to be cut. In.

Jean Grey - She's Marvel Girl here, not Phoenix. In.

Legion - There are a lot of mitigating factors to why Legion isn't a reliable entry, but that assumes a lot. Out.

Magneto - Easy to beat. In.

Storm - Again, easy to beat. In.

Quentin Quire - Would be the subject of a lot of irritating discussions that ultimately would have to give him unfair wins. Out.

Franklin Richards - Lol. Out.

Vulcan - Tough as hell, but not unstoppable by any means. In.

Hope Summers - On the fence, but out.

Frankly, the half of this I'll pay most attention to is the readability half, and Omega-Level mutants are the least interesting characters to read (aside from Legion). So drafting them is a strike against in that category!

Yeah there's no over-powered nature there, and the rules (which I'll present tomorrow; I wasn't going to do cuts tonight but people were already discussing it) will preclude gaming the system with them anyways.
