Yeah, that was definitely just a Baltimore thing. To most people, Flacco just got hot at the right time and had a good run.

Foles coming in last year and nearly doing the same thing two years in a row definitely elevated him to memetic popularity

I mean there's a big difference between a QB whose nickname is Joe Flaccid and one whose nickname conveys the opposite

I mean, I give Flacco respect for perhaps having the single greatest postseason a QB has ever had

but Flacco hasn't been anywhere near that good since and Foles still has the mystique of being that guy due to the fact that he went back to being the backup last year and got injured game 1 this year

if Foles comes back and is somehow worse than Minshew then that popularity will go away

and Minshew's popularity will continue to wane as he continues to be bad

I really don't see Minshew as bad. He passes the eye test to me. I mean maybe teams will get film on him and he'll be worse, but at minimum he's one of the better back-ups.

He was thrown in unexpectedly and has played well for his first 7 starts as a rookie or whatever. I know there might be some envy cause he's way better than Mariota but come on!

He's a below average starter (which means a capable backup), which is more than anyone should have expected from him all things considered.

He was really bad against Houston though, which is probably what cost him his job in the end.

Minshew has a few issues he needs to fix as teams start planning for him. But as a 6th round pick, he's playing better than should be expected of him. With the right QB coach, he could turn into a much better player. But I don't think Jacksonville has the right coaching staff right now. They could also use a tight end. But they've got 2 extra 1st round picks to work with now.
