Yes i do, they scan the receipt to take inventory which makes it easier for them to order whats in need which in turn will ultimately enhance my shopping experience. I used to work at wal mart and know how messy it can be keeping track of every little thing in a department especially with theives running amok.

Now that i think about it, we could still keep track of what was bought through the program we used. Why do they need to scan receipts now?
This is completely false, lol.

Inventory is controlled by items scanned at the point of sale. It makes zero sense whatsoever that the door greeter scanning your receipt was inventory control. The only purpose of the greeter scanning the receipt is tracking that they are actually checking them, like a security guard making his rounds and scanning a keycard at checkpoints to validate they are in that area when they are supposed to be.

My position has been, and remains, that anyone who wants to delay me to check my receipt needs either probable cause or something more intimidating than a blue vest.

I agree. They tightened up on checking receipt at the Walmarts where I live recently, but they seemed to have stopped. But I've made up my mind that if they stop me again and ask if they can see my receipt, I'm just going to say "No, I don't have time." And it's nothing against the associate just trying to do his or her job, it's just an inconvenience that I don't feel I'm obligated to give in to, is all.

In that case my answer would still be yes because they were just doing their jobs. The receipt scanning was implemented after I quit so I didn't understand why they needed to scan the receipts and just assumed. I dont understand the keycard reference. The handhelds don't have tracking devices in them. But the door checker having one of those just seems like wasted resources. I remember there was never enough of those things to go around because every department manager needed them, people in the back room needed them, and sales associates needed them.

This or theres an item under the basket. Apparently theres been a lot of people that just walk out without having payed.

Ever since Walmart really started enforcing this policy, being the door greeter kind of became its own nightmare. People can be downright nasty about being stopped.

Normally the door greeter will ask to see your receipt as you leave the store to check if everything you have is what you paid for. They really only do it at stores with a lot of shoplifting. In my local Walmart they don't do it, but in the one in the city over that is a major city they do because they have a higher rate of theft.

This is true. They did at the shitty Walmart in Fargo. But the nicer one they didn't. My town I live in only has one

Problem at our Walmart is that they like to use old ladies or some newb kid in the world who couldn't fight their way out of a preschool.

One time I seen a huge ass guy hastily walk out the door with a weed eater on his shoulder while the 70 year old lady tried to get him to stop.

Another time seen some girls with a buggy loaded with a computer and TV.

They were acting nervous which got my attention.

They made it look like they were heading to the self checkout and then rushed out the door with the goodies.

Anyway I once suggested that they should employee arm and leg breaking bouncers to watch the doors.

This topic reminds me of some customers in the store I worked in. The batteries are locked up because they were being stolen more often than sold.

People would say stuff like this is ridiculous, Im not a thief!

I must have missed the meeting where we were told to lock it up specifically because of you.

And thats just the batteries, theres several locked stuff throughout the other aisles & departments.

Costco and Sam's Club are 'membership' stores, technically not open to the public. So you agree to having your receipt and items checked as a condition of membership. It's like living in a neighborhood with Mello-Roos taxes, or more generally just a really crappy Homeowners Association.

Yeah I dont care.

I remember when I would shop with my mom as a child, she would be really offended by these people asking to see her receipts. She might cite racial profiling (which at some times there were people that would just walk by before us who weren't asked or bothered who were non-blacks, but we were). Definitely could've been racially charged at times.

But I was also aware that for the people doing it, it was probably just there job. And I had nothing to hide, so it was fine by me.

Only once did I actually do the survey to complain about it. It was because I was already frustrated with other workers in the store. I was going up to one of the self checkouts and one of the employees closes that one as I am about to scan my item. It isn't like I had a ton of stuff either because it was just 1 or 2 items. I had to go to another self checkout machine which the greeter could see and got my receipt and they still stop me and ask for my receipt. I actually did get a response from corporate. They believed me to be correct and would discuss the incident with the store's management.

No lol. My relationship with wal mart ends when I pay. I ain't gonna deal with some old guy in a wheelchair shouting at me to show him my receipt as I walk out. If walmart was so concerned with shoplifting, they shouldn't have installed self checkout kiosks. They don't get it both ways. I'm not checking myself out to save the time, just so someone can go back over my purchases and hold me up at the door.

Honestly, at the store I work at, they check the receipts for anyone who doesn't have stuff bagged. They don't profile anyone unless there's someone being obviously suspicious (walking in covered in dark clothes and a backpack, which happens frequently).
Best buy is one place that really sticks out in my memory. They followed me so closely I felt guilty and I hadn't done anything wrong. How do you treat customers like that. Shit is fucked up.

My mom (manager of geek squad before it was geek squad) & stepdad worked at the one here in town when it first opened. I would go in to visit and if she was busy i'd walk around looking at stuff. Im in the media dept looking at cd's. My mom & Bonnie (head of security at the time) come out the small "time" office door thats by the security camera person. They chat for a few but my mom notices the whole time the guy has the camera on me. So my mom & Bonnie dont say anything to him about who i am. My mom tells the security guy to "watch this, ill get him", walks over to me, looks at the camera, then hugs me and mouths to the camera "this is my son".

Dude was fired 5 minutes later for the shit he saying while my mom & Bonnie were standing there with him. Apparently he was the only 1 in the whole place that didn't know that information.

Not really, I just never had good experiences there. Half the time what I want isn't on the shelf and if you want help you can't find anyone.

and I'll never get groceries there because more often than not they don't rotate food so nothing is ever fresh and it expires too quickly.

Let's not forget that they don't ever have any lanes open.

It's far easier to get groceries at Kroger, things are super fresh, you can always find whatever you need and there's always someone around to help and it's no trouble getting through line.

They wouldn't need to if folks didn't steal.

Like this one guy who had 5 different cuts of meats removed from his cart because it wasn't on his receipt.

Or how my friend tells me the night shift at Safeway (or Albertsons for you other mainlander folks), there's always someone trying to walk out the door with meat in their backpack(s).

We have Safeways here.

I try to go when theyre distracted. When I first visited Lawrenceburg, TN I was accused of stealing a self check out ethernet cord. I threw the receipt out after passing the gates. She wanted me to dig through the trash. I couldnt find it. She had me walk in and check with the self checkout person. At least the self check out persons face seemed to agree with my mind: this is ridiculous. I was then lectured to keep my receipt. Later on they didnt check in my rug doctor. Rug doctor almost filed a credit report. Lectured me to keep a receipt. That Walmart is the worst, possibly the town too - though I do tend to keep receipts now.

You actually stood there and let someone lecture you after youd proven them wrong?

Theyd have gotten two words in with me before they got told to fuck off.
