Lion King is about lions, but it's really about monarchical rule and personal responsibility. Watership Down is about rabbits, but is really about a community having to relocate. All of these stories feature nonhuman protagonists, but still have anthropomorphism at its core. They're still functionally human even if the stories are crafted in such a manner to remind us that they're not. The most anthropomorphism that Godzilla has had is in striking victory poses, cursing, or telling Anguirus to check out the mainland. Whether it be nuclear arms, Japanese war dead, or Japanese military autonomy in the modern age, Godzilla has functioned as the ramification of humans' actions.
