Varys deserved a better death. It felt far too quick and emotionless. A character like him deserved one last moment to shine. Cersei could have had a grander death, but I like the idea of her dying afraid with no one knowing.

Night King went out like a moron. I don't really mind Arya getting the kill, just the circumstances (the siege took place in a single ep) and how this dude had thousands of years to plan and still got taken out with a little misdirection.

Eurons death didnt much bother me since he was always a grating caricature of a villain, apart from his very first scene.

Im torn between Jaime and The Night King. Both had their development and mystique, respectively, snuffed out within seconds.

That, the night king served absolutely no purpose other than to just move people around the map.

Littlefinger was a fantastic character that became pointless because stupid people couldn't figure out how to handle him.

tyrion even literally says to him, "you always knew who she was, and you loved her anyway". Jamie wasn't willing to let Cersai die alone, and he knew once he killed Dani's dragon, there was no way for her to live through it. He could have had a happy life with Brianne, if he knew Cersai was going to be okay.

Here I was foolishly thinking that his character development would have panned out.

I'm not even talking about his book counterpart which is 100% different from the show. Even in the show the intention was shown to have him leave cersei.

Oddly enough even the actor who plays him believed he was leaving Cersei for good until they filmed S8. So ya, the guy portraying the character did so under the belief that he was walking away.

But clearly you had a better understanding of his character.

I'd have to go with the Night King. In retrospect, I should have known that the show would wrap him up quickly without any final twist, because he's not really a character in the books and the show seems to be contorting itself to get back to GRRM's planned ending. Still they could have done some really interesting or impactful things with the NK after building him up for like 4 seasons (or whenever we first saw him, I forget). Kind of a missed opportunity, imo.

His whole arc is about him finding himself without being a great fighter. Which includes admitting he did the terrible things he did out of love for cersai knowing who she always was and loving her in spite of it. Him not wanting his sister that loves and is pregnant with his child to die alone isn't out of character, it's exactly his character.

The notion that he goes from putting a baby in her to letting her being okay with dying, with his child, when she's barely showing, because he popped Brianne cherry is actual bad writing.

Sorry, gotta write in Barristan. That was the turning point, in which the show went from pretty faithful adaptation despite the unfilmable nature of the source material, to holy shit what the fuck were they thinking? The show's never really recovered from that point. 'Winds of Winter' is the only episode since then that I've genuinely enjoyed; in all other cases, closure and morbid curiosity have been my motivations to continue watching.

The NK's death, while I'm fine with the actual manner in which it was done, was extremely premature. I would have preferred to see them wipe out Winterfell and make their way down the continent and generally be a greater threat than they were before he dies.

The way it went down it was just underwhelming after all the buildup.

Who in seven hells is this one?
The Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Jaime returned with cold courtesy. I might ask the same of you, my lady.
Lady? Im no lady. Im the queen.
My sister will be surprised to hear that.
Lord Ryman crowned me his very self. She gave a shake of her ample hips. Im the queen o whores.
No, Jaime thought, my sweet sister holds that title too.

Qyburns words were terse and to the point, Cerseis fevered and fervent. Come at once, she said. Help me. Save me. I need you now as I have never needed you before. I love you. I love you. I love you. Come at once.

Vyman was hovering by the door, waiting, and Jaime sensed that Peck was watching too. Does my lord wish to answer? the maester asked, after a long silence.

A snowflake landed on the letter. As it melted, the ink began to blur. Jaime rolled the parchment up again, as tight as one hand would allow, and handed it to Peck. No, he said. Put this in the fire.

yeah that's like 3 and half seasons ago, then they banged in the cathedrel. If you ever manage to get into a relationship, you'll have your first fight and you'll understand that emotions come and go, and sometimes you really hate someone because they did something that really pissed you off, then you remember why you cared about them and you make up. Don't worry, you'll have one some day.

so just like they did in the show and tyrion has always hated cersei, in the books and show, he simply understands that she loves her children and will do anything for them. Which is why he believed she would help when she let Tyrion know she was pregnant.
