Still working on the game, but I just got to the bake sale area and so far this game is pretty interesting. It's neat to see Toby Fox still insist on his previous graphical style, yet noticing little touches along the way that keeps making Deltarune look better

That theory has a lot of little bits of evidence but it all seems like a stretch. That said, Sans IS the main connection between the old world and this one, through Gaster and the blueprints and "don't forget", so he's gotta have some importance. All that stuff just seems too convenient...

Pretty sure it's Chara. One of the first times if not the first time that the Knight is mentioned, "strange knight" appears in red text. In Undertale, red text is very strongly associated with Chara, especially in his/her Genocide dialogue.

I have a theory that the Angel's Heaven is actually Hometown.

In Undertale, the info we get about the angel is as such:
There is a prophecy. The Angel... The One Who Has Seen The Surface... They will return. And the underground will go empty.

The one who has seen the surface are Asriel and Chara.

Asriel would find Hometown akin to a heaven (Chara is more of a psycho), since it's full of the monsters living in the underground but they're living free above ground and have a normal, functioning society. Asriel is also nowhere to be seen in Hometown (since he's away on college) but is talked about with such fondness, so he's almost mythical -- like an angel.

There's also a church in town and the Dreemurs were (are?) devout followers. I can't remember if they explicitly worship the Angel but it sounds likely.

So yeah, I'm thinking that Hometown is something like Asriel's ideal world that came into being for...some reason. Perhaps by the power of the fountains.

Also I'm not truly sure on this next bit, but Asriel might've seen the monsters of the underground but not really got the time to know them well. Hence why everyone is slightly off: Bratty and Catty are not friends, Alphys and Undine don't know each other, and Sans is new in town. As opposed to Frisk, who got to know them.

One thing that throws a wrench into this theory is the fact that Toriel and Asgore are separated, so it's not a truly ideal world for Asriel.

Then, if we 'banish the Heaven' it might mean putting an end to Homeworld. And Chara's (?) arrival in the epilogue might be them going into their brother's Heaven in order to wreck it.

I thought the ending was just Kris reclaiming control of his body. At various points its implied Kris is acting very strangely by other people (because of us)

So other than my 'Chara took over Kris in the epilogue', it can also be either Chara = Kris (directly or with alternate universe shenanigans), Chara took over the 'real' Kris like with Frisk since years ago, or they just share the same love for chocolate and macabre humor.

This game's tone feels more akin to Homestuck x Persona 4 compared to Undertale being a glorified Mother 3 remake.

Noelle has sooooo many death/cruelty bait flags that it is honestly hilarious. I am curious as to how she will develop in the full game. Suzie is best girl.

I think it's pretty clear that Kris = altChara of some sort. Kris is definitely implied to have the behavior of Chara. The only thing I couldn't figure out is why Kris would be all about sparing in the dark world. But that's just because you are controlling Kris at the time. So the question is, why is Kris allowing us to control them like that? Did Gaster put us in them, and then they only managed to get us out in the ending? The bird cage already being there implies that this happens fairly often though.

Also I do think the imaginary aspect of the dark world is really important. The outfits and flavor text and new battle UI and everything for sure mean it's not a real place. But then what's up with Ralsei (Kris imagining his brother?) and with Susie sharing the dream? It was a fully contained story that doesn't need to be readdressed, so I wonder if future chapters will just be more imaginations, maybe with different characters?
