Got him down on my third try. Getting momentum with him is a nightmare but once you have it things aren't too terrible. Was still like a 25 minute fight! 20 mins in I got everyone pepped up to use Knight's Mandate and Hendrick god moded while I burned him down. It was glorious.~

Went to explore other areas instead of Mount Pang Lai and ended up running into Sylvando. I then left and went back to Pang Lai. Is it actually possible to recruit Sylvando first, or would I have been story locked at some point before finishing that segment?

You have a ton of freedom in Act 2, so yes! As a matter of fact, that's what I ended up doing without even realizing I was going "out of order."

Question about post-game stuff.

Im at the point where my party just got back their levels and abilities. Is Calasmos basically it? As in, do I do all the side stuff I want to do now, then fight him and then Im done? Or is there still more after that?

Basically Im trying to figure out if I should start doing my trophy grinding stuff now or if I should keep moving on the story until theres a better stopping point.

I'm as far as the bit after you get the boat and you do the mermaid/human tragic lovers story. I went back to the casino, but I don't know if I want to deal with the nonsense of save scumming and double or nothing and slots that pay out when they want to. If I wanted to get depressed over not winning anything I'd go to a real casino.

The house always loses in Dragon Quest so if anything you only really need to save scum to get enough tokens to absorb any initial loss. Once you have that it's actually almost impossible to lose money on slots.

Did anybody here beat the game on Stronger Monsters? It's been a pretty easy run so far with the most I've ever had to retry a boss being three times on Tatsunaga, but I'm at the final boss of Part 2 now and he's completely kicking my ass.

My party is 53-55 right now and they're all sporting the best gear they possibly can right now, but if he decides to do Red Mist + Cutting Edge and it hits the wrong people then there's no possible counter-play. I spend so much time doing damage control and rebuffing that almost nobody ever even gets to attack. I've gotten him to yellow life a couple of times but it just feels like pure RNG to me. Everything up to here has been easy, even Jasper, but am I just expected to level up more for this guy or something?

Ended up grinding out a few levels and got him down! After reading up on it, apparently people playing on normal think the second form is much harder? That's pretty hilarious actually. The first form is a god damn nightmare on hard, but the second actually felt like one of the easiest bosses in the game provided you put up a magic barrier.

Anyway, Part 2 BEAT. Can't wait to get started on the post game, but that'll have to wait for tomorrow.~

I took your advice and just ran through the autoplay for a while. Once I got sick of the Slime Quest slots I moved on to the 5-Reel slots. You were totally right. I hit the jackpot during Metal Time, right in the middle of a set of free spins (and it turns out free spins don't count against your spins during Metal Time). I got some nice stuff, which I promptly reforged into slightly nicer stuff. It's not as overpowered as I'd hoped, but it's not like the game has gotten difficult to this point.

Part 2 Dundrasil:

Really digging the flashback, but I wish they would have made separate flashback character models for the rest of the characters besides Jade. They're already pushing it with Carnelian and Rab, but there's no way Hendrik looks exactly the same at ~20 as he does at ~40!

Hendricks age is given as 36 (its mentioned as same as Jasper). I am 36 and I have been mistaken for being in my early 20's. If you don't believe me on my age, the 82 in my user name is birth year. Some people just don't age much.

I'm in post game now. I spoilered myself because I had to know if This game is related to Dragon Quest 3. I really wish I did not get rid of it when I got married.

Tearing through the post game now! Wasn't expecting anywhere near this level of content but I'm not complaining, haha. Just started pulling together the best gear in the game and I'm just a few pep tricks away from hitting 99. Maxing out in a game like this is always such a delightful feeling.~

Have been avoiding the message boards and the DQXI topics on the board from fear of spoilers.

I've logged 69 hours and am at the Final dungeon of the main-game

Party level is 70-73 (did the electro light exp trick) and have done 46/47 side quests (what is up with this and where is the last quest?). I have explored the world throughly but I've still missed a few recipes and monsters for the bestiary.

I guess I will worry about all that after I beat the game and start tackling the post-game content.

I have a few questions for the people who have already completed post-game
*Warning contains heavy spoilers for people who haven't completed act 1 or 2. So look away if you are not past that point.
Q1. How much content does post-game have? (About how many hours?)
Q2. How many total side quests are there and are any quests missable?
Q3. Any reason I should hold back from levelling up more? I don't want a new character or Veronica to return severely underlevelled compared to my current party.
Q4. Actually not really a question so much as a rhetorical one. This is the ****ing best Dragon Quest game and it isn't even close. How can a game like this be THIS good in 2018?

1. For the postgame if you Mainline the story you can get it done pretty quickly but there's a ton of optional story content in every town that I would recommend checking out too. Really if you do everything it's equally as long as Parts 1 & 2 maybe only a tad bit shorter

Finished Sniflheim pt 2

Was expecting Mia to be the boss. Wasnt expecting her to turn into a giant gold monster! Definitely the hardest boss fight so far; had to use a Yggdrasil leaf on Rab and had quite a few characters get down to 50-100 hp.

Corsairs Hat looks kinda lame; disappointing given how great the Corsairs Coat looks!

One of the coolest old school throwbacks is flying in this game.

I'm spending a lot of time pausing and just looking around at where I've walked before. Reminds me of Xenoblade in a way, too. Like, "Look, it you see the back of the knee, that's where our village is!"

I've finally made it to Part 2. I've just reunited with Sylvando. What gets me is not the over the top flamboyance, not the costumes, but the fact that the main character not only doesn't question the new outfit but gleefully goes along with it. Up with the knees, big waves, and still dancing when he's not moving. It just makes me smile.

You got that outfit now. It's not an event thing. Throw it on and you'll start dancing again.

Just got access to the outer part of the ocean. Maaan, this game is everything I wanted it to be and more. And I'm thrilled that I still have so much more to do.

97 hours. Almost everything completed in post-game. Just got one more trial left and then it is off to face Calasmos.

Holy **** first ever game over in the entire game courtesy of Overwheening Pride in the final Drustan Trial. Kinda impressive seeing as my party is level 99 and I had near optimal equipment. Beat him the next try in 30 turns which I believe is not very impressive. Was better prepared but some of the status ailments he inflicts really ****ed up my healers.

I expect Calasmos is harder?

Anyway now I only have a bunch of fun size forging and apparently some crossbow targets left before I tackle the the true final boss and complete the game 100%.

Kinda sad that the end is drawing near for arguably my Game of the Year (God of War being the other competition).

Wow, for some reason I didnt realize you could simultaneously dash and drift in the horse races

Knowing that helps a lot

I have literally never not held the dash button in the Horse races and I found Gold Cup Hard mode to be harder than Platinum and Black Hard mode.

Doragon Quesudo Juuichi beated 100%! At 109 hours.

Calasmos was either too easy or I was too overprepared. The last thing I expected him to be was an alien crab monster though. Talk about this game breaking all of its usual DQ tropes all the way to the end. Lol

This is seriously a strong contender for my GotY with God of War being its other competition. Spider-Man and Octopath Traveler a distant 3rd and 4th.

I have to let things sink in a little before I decide which one is better. Currently leaning towards DQXI.

The credits made me shed a tear even though I actually liked only half the games shown on it.

And now I have a strong urge to replay the NES Dragon Quest games even though I absolutely hated Dragon Quest II.
