It was 3 full length films long, it had like 12+ main characters and 3-4 major plot lines that needed to be wrapped up. What did you really expect? Those people probably never even watched the other LotR movies if they're whining about this shit.

But the only reason the eagles were even able to get to Mordor was because everyone else was in on the big distraction plan.

Had they done that right away, Sauron wouldve had those eagles pelted with boulders from below, and he wouldve gotten the ring, like, right away.

I remembered being put off when other movie watchers were kinda booing at the ending of Fellowship of the Ring until I realized most probably never read the books so were clueless that there's more to the story. I do wonder what Jackson coulda done better to stay true to the source while adapting it to a movie setting.

If/When The Silmarillion become a series, I do hope it starts off and stays as a TV series. Like you said, there's just too much for it to be in a movie setting. On another note, I've been told there's going to be a new Dune movie. I kinda thought the first movie was enjoyable but never got around to the TV series.

Maybe, but when thousands of boulders, arrows, and bolts are bombarding the skies, the Eagles wouldn't have much room to maneuver.

The film is too long for a theatre experience of a fantasy film. I remember starting to leave multiple times getting increasingly frustrated at it not ending.

My home viewing experience is a completely different story however. After seeing them, I can only ever watch the extended cuts now and in doing so don't look at the films as a trilogy anymore but as a single 9 hour experience.

The blu rays help in this respect as each film is split over two discs. This means it's easier to watch them like a season of tv over the course of a week. Makes those multiple endings a complete non issue.

Sure but in your scenario they would kill themselves without accomplishing their goal. The forge of Mount Doom is inside the volcano. It's not the typical cartoon volcano that's open on the top. The Eagles wouldn't be able to just swandive in and destroy themselves and the Ring at the same time.

Also they would still be shot out of the sky before they could get close.

The forge is the volcano itself. Also if you're going straight down from a high distance you're not going to lose your trajectory.

You can't access the Forge from above. And even in a fast dive they're gonna be shot out of the sky once they're in range.

Especially since he's either assuming you can get to the lava from directly above (which you can't), or that things like gravity and wind-resistance don't exist, and that you can magically coast straight into the opening on a dead eagle, as opposed to plunging to your death.


EDIT: He's also assuming that the eagles can fly higher in the air than Nazgul's riding evil dragon-bat things can, which is probably not true.

He's ALSO also assuming that the eagles would have been willing to do any of this in the first place, which they probably wouldn't have been, because their attitude was mostly that their sole purpose was to be scouts for the gods, not to solve all of the mortals problems for them. If Manwe wasn't going to march straight to Middle Earth and kick Sauron in the balls himself, the eagles probably weren't going to get directly involved either (especially since the OTHER servants of the gods - the wizards - were explicitly told their job was to inspire and advise, and NOT oppose Sauron directly).

If the people of Middle-Earth weren't good enough and determined enough to save themselves from Sauron, they kind of deserved to be conquered by Sauron. That seems to be the general mindset the gods had after the Numenoreans turned against them.
