Board 8 > How desensitized are you to seeing videos where someone dies?

Definitely not posting any links of course but I feel like after seeing so many over the years almost nothing phases me. Which maybe isn't the greatest thing.

I'm asking because I did stumble upon a new video of a poor lad who gets caught in spinning machine. For some reason the 3 minute video by the end I just wanted to vomit.

I hate watching videos like that because it makes me imagine what that person experienced and then I start to think that one day I will also die, and that gets me depressed a little.

I wouldn't really even know where to look.

But I have watched racing deaths on youtube more then I probably should. I saw most of them live though. Different bowl of wax.

Man now I was so curious that I went to Voat of all places. What a deserted site. WatchPeopleDie is open to the public there though. Watched a dude get pulled into an industrial thresher. At least it was instant!

I'm not very desensitized although I have seen my fair share out of morbid curiosity [typically live television mishaps or unexpected results - JFK's death, newscasters committing suicide on air]. I don't feel a need to watch more, I've seen more than I wanted to, honestly.

Also a bowl of wax? I thought it was a ball of wax.

I dunno maybe JFK or something. And the twin towers if that counts? I didn't see any people dying but I assume people were dying at the time that footage was taken of the buildings collapsing.

It's kind of sad, but I watch a lot of gory horror movies so I'm pretty desensitized to watching humans die. Heck 1000 Ways to Die used to be one of my favorite shows. Every now and then I'll get this sinking sensation in the pit of my stomach if I watch someone die and I know that it's actually real, but that's about it. The most fucked up thing I've ever seen was a dog being beaten to death with a shovel and that brought me to tears. Scarred me for life more than anything I could watch a human go through, but the phase of my life where I actively go seeking for real tragedies is over.

I mean if you were to ask me I would probably say that I am because I watched one of those by accident back in the day (twin towers video that actually showed someone die via falling somewhat clearly iirc) and it had no real effect and I'm pretty non-squeamish in general.

But I'm not some weirdo who actively seeks them out either so who knows. There may be some vile ones out there that would legitimately upset me but I'll never know cause I'm not looking for it.

Oh I know there are much much worse ones than I've ever seen don't get me wrong. People are screwed up.

The question is just whether they cross a threshold where I am actually shaken about it

As said it's not something I'm ever going out of my way to test but it's less outright aversion and more "why would I want to?" Like there's nothing to gain there. Either it upsets me and I'm upset, or it doesn't upset me and I have the prestigious badge of... "why didn't you care you sick fuck" which honestly, despite what you may guess from my rambling on here, isn't one I'd be wearing proudly.

I guess the fact that I don't have any real outright interest in seeing it means it probably would rattle me but I wouldn't feel confident enough to bet money on it either is all I'm saying.

Depending on what the content is I'll either cringe or be like... oh he got shot. If someone's head gets sawed off or some shit like that then yeah I'll cringe and be like 'oh shit this is too much' but I don't actively go out looking for stuff like that.

It'll either be linked to me by a friend who links liveleak or some other post on reddit or some other forum.

I guess I'm pretty desensitized. Meh.

I've stumbled across some pretty fucked up stuff like that but I don't really remember specifics. It's not something I would seek out or anything but I don't feel it effects me too much to watch it. One of the grossest things I've ever seen was actually a result of my mom. She was watching some show about horrible accidents that have come through ERs but it was real footage and she called me in there to see. This guy was in a motorcycle accident and his leg was twisted all the way around like twice and all his muscles and tendons and shit was exposed and man it was just fucking gross. And I think knowing it was a real thing and not Hollywood special effects that really got to me about it.

I don't think I've actively searched for any. Sometimes when video of a controversial police killing is released and I see it on social media, I'll watch, but not always. Aside from that I think the last video of this kind of thing I saw was when that woman and her kid were on an escalator in China and the floor collapsed and she got pulled in. You don't actually see any of it anyway, you just see her get pulled under the floor.
