This also confirms to me that Battler has no control over the version of himself on the island, because he wants someone to stop Rosa but can't do anything about it.

Maria and Rosa were tortured and killed over and over by this other Eva until Beatrice intervened. I felt very sorry for Maria there. It's interesting to see how Battler is rubbing off on Beatrice, and how Beatrice might be seeing herself in a new light by watching this Eva.

The connection this witch Eva has to the real one is somewhat confusing. Obviously this witch Eva doesn't "exist", and maybe Eva's nightmares and dreams about what her inner thoughts could do are being represented as visual scenes to us. I understand that concept of there being multiple explanations for the same event, the magical and the real. Still, splitting Eva into two people with two different looks is very odd. It almost seems like, the writer had this idea of Eva becoming a witch but she's too old so he had to come with this complicated inner self stuff to bullshit a way to get a younger Eva to be the witch. Vaguely creepy honestly.

Well, he has some control. It's just rather limited because Beatrice controls everything else.

Beatrice's voice actress is doing a really good job of showing the range of her emotions. I think the character would not be nearly as good without it. I'm also glad to see Battler sticking to his guns when it comes to his feelings on Beatrice.

So the soundtrack in the version I'm playing now ( I don't remember if this PS3 patch changes the music or not), is this the exact same soundtrack that was in the original? Or are these updated/remixed versions? Either way it's pretty great.

Rudolf and Kyrie were very cool in their fights. I'm glad I correctly recognized Rudolf as the best when I first started played. Unfortunately things went very bad for them after that.

Witch Eva is very uncontrollable. Her sadistic nature is frustrating even Beatrice, though I'm guessing some of that has to do not only with Battler's objections but also how Battler's opinions are reshaping how Beatrice sees herself and her past actions. I think Beatrice trying to get Battler to laugh with her over Rosa's death was her trying what Virgilia suggested, to be the welcoming sun. But that backfired incredibly badly for her. I wonder if the "nice" route could ever work on Battler again?

Well that was crazy! First off, the debate between Battler and witch Eva was cool and very high-energy. I thought the depiction of Eva's final checkmate was very striking. I do wonder what Beatrice said now, knowing what happens next.

When Battler got to the golden land, I remembered all those North Wind and Sun conversations Virgilia and Beatrice had. I definitely didn't suspect them to be in collusion, rather that Beatrice's new outlook actually inadvertently worked to convince Battler without her trying to. I suppose that, looking back, Beatrice's completely personality turn-around happens a bit fast. I wonder if witch Eva was truly out of Beatrice's control, or that was a calculated risk on her part to ensure her trick would work.

Of course the new girl at the end grabbed my attention too. She seemed almost to be a female version of Battler, from the red hair and repeating some of his lines I wonder is she could be Ange? That name did appear in the credits I think.

Though as I think of it, some scenes don't make sense depending on when this trick of Beatrice's starts. We see scenes of Virgilia and Beatrice and Beatrice's inner thoughts and actions, things Battler doesn't see. There's no need for Beatrice to play coy or to lie to herself in these scenes, so either some weird writing is going on or something else is at play. It sort of reminds me of Heavy Rain or the last season of Game of Thrones, but I would like to think this isn't some plot hole.

Red: Nanjo's death was a homicide. ...Of course, it was with a direct method of murder, not a trap. A weapon was readied, and he was killed with it from point-blank range in front of him! The culprit appeared openly before Nanjo's eyes, and as they both looked at each other's faces, the culprit killed him!

Also, I wanted to address this. As I've been rereading the series, I have found only 1 thing that I might consider a plot hole, but it's not what you think it is. I think Ryukishi was counting on people forgetting something, and I think you did. :P

In fact, rereading this, you start to see so many amazing things that you know had to have been planned since Ep 1.

I'll give you a little bone to chew on: there are THREE solutions (maybe more, but most people arrive at one of three solutions.)

All red truth SPECIFICALLY for the red web/Nanjo's murder:

After Jessica was injured, Eva was constantly under Battler's supervision. Battler is neither the culprit nor an accomplice. By this, we can establish a perfect alibi for Eva

There are no more than 18 humans on this island

No life forms other than humans have any connection to this game

Kinzo is dead
Krauss is dead
Natsuhi is dead
Hideyoshi is dead
George is dead
Rudolf is dead
Kyrie is dead
Rosa is dead
Maria is dead
Genji is dead
Shannon is dead
Kanon is dead
Gohda is dead
Kumasawa is dead
Nanjo is dead
Those 15 are all dead
Battler is alive
Eva is alive
Jessica is alive

Eva was with you the whole time. So committing a crime was impossible for her. Of course, Battler-kun isn't the culprit. He wasn't forging an alibi for her, and he took the possibility that she was the culprit into account, watching her actions carefully. No chance existed for her to do anything suspicious! In short, at the time of the crime, only Nanjo and Jessica were in the servant room

Ushiromiya Jessica has not committed murder! She was not involved with Nanjo's murder!! Her eyes were completely covered. It'd impossible for her to carry out a murder like that. And here's a bonus. Neither Eva nor Battler killed Nanjo, nor were they involved

The culprit who killed Nanjo was neither Battler nor Eva nor Jessica

Jessica's eyes were completely covered, and murder was impossible for her

No actions caused by Jessica's body had any relation to or influence on the murder of Nanjo! This also applies to Battler and Eva. In other words, no matter how much you try to struggle and interpret it, neither Jessica nor Battler nor Eva is the culprit who killed Nanjo

Nanjo's death was a homicide. ...Of course, it was with a direct method of murder, not a trap. A weapon was readied, and he was killed with it from point-blank range in front of him! The culprit appeared openly before Nanjo's eyes, and as they both looked at each other's faces, the culprit killed him

The red only tells the truth

Absolutely no factors other than humans participated in this game board

The one who killed Nanjo was definitely a human! A human, with their feet on the ground, held up a weapon and killed with it! Right before his eyes!

The ??? was much more interesting. I think this is the first time we've seen events in the real world beyond the murders on the island. So that girls was Ange after all. We see her and Eva's relationship 12 years after the events on the island... it's not pretty. This also shows the events leading up to Ange saving Battler.

According the Episode 4 description, the next game will have parts "outside of the board", and the difficulty level "depends on you". How very vague!
