Board 8 > Best Mass Effect alien race?

Didn't include the Andromeda species just because the original trilogy already had a ton of alien races, and honestly the new ones aren't quite developed enough to compete against the races we spent three games with. Geth not included, although the more I think about it, I'm being a bit unfair to not put them on.

Also didn't include Protheans or the Leviathan because you only meet one of each, and only in DLC.

Honestly the Geth probably should've gotten the 9th slot before other, but I considered replacing the Volus with the Hanar. They're the most prominent of the ones I left listed in other

My first instinct is to say turian but as amazing as Garrus is I'm not sure if he alone can hold up the entire race.

Turians and Salarians are the least-likely races to have awful people. Like, I love Tali and Wrex but their races are dumpster fires at times.

Quarians were really interesting IMO, even the ones who were bad people. Geth would make a hard run at my vote if they were included though.

Yeah, quarians may be rather hit or miss in terms of likability, but their culture, politics, circumstances, etc. are really interesting. Plus, my favorite Loyalty Mission in ME2 and my favorite mission in ME3 are both quarian-related.

although really all you need is Tali and Kal'Reegar anyway

This is a legit tough choice for me. I legit liked all the races, except the Batarians and Vorcha. Top three are in some order: Turian, Krogan, and Salarian, with Volus and Elcor rounding out the top five.

I guess that isn't really fair, the Batarians make a good enemy, and the few non-combatant batarians you meet aren't terrible, but they are bottom tier as far as ME races go, just above the Vorcha. At the very least, the Batarians and Vorcha had interesting designs.

You know I was about to go 'fair point' and then I looked at the Mass Effect wiki and found that during the Krogan Rebellions (started entirely by them for no reason), they chucked asteroids at populated worlds. So yeah the Genophage is awful but the Krogans still suck more.

Krogans and Quarians are definitely the two races that stand out to me from Mass Effect, even if neither one is the most likable lot (Wrex and Tali not withstanding)

Oh, the krogans have plenty of very obvious problems as a race (Wrex spends all of ME1 telling you about them), but the turians and salarians teamed up to commit genocide. Every major race has several black marks on their record, which also makes them pretty realistic.

The most interesting bit about the Asari is the implication you get from one of the ambient dialogue scenes that the reason the Asari are attractive to all races is that they're subconciously influencing everyone using their space magic.

They do but just based on personal experiences, I'd much rather be talking to the average turian or salarian than the average krogan. Every race has their Mordin or Wrex, but go beyond that and most of the turians/salarians you meet seem reasonable while 80% of the krogans you meet in ME are dumb jerks.
