Man I don't even know where to begin but that was a top tier anime episode.

I cried. These characters are the actual best.

Also I'm suddenly really sad this show is only going to be 13 episodes.

There's a trailer for the dub of AICO on Netflix, and it's shockingly bad. Probably why I can't find a copy of it anywhere. The visuals are incredible but the voice acting is....damn, maybe it's a bad representation? Devilman and B's were excellent so I figured that was the standard. May have to go with the subs for this one.

yeah as a dub guy the trailer for AICO is actually terrible, and unlike some bad dub trailers where they just pick a scene that doesn't really work well as a voice showcase this one seems to have a bunch of different characters and lines that did not play well. Like the main thing seems to be the pacing of the lines are stilted and awkward as hell. I'll give it a shot but I could see myself switching to sub easily.

Like, clearly it's the best looking non theatrical anime BONES has ever made. Even from the trailer that's obvious. But man, I can only assume that because these are releasing so close together that B got the A Team for voice direction and AICO got the scraps. This is some classic Sentai Filmworks tier dubbing. Even before it was over all I could thinking of was From the New World's dub.

And you're right that it's hard to give it the benefit of the doubt. Kill La Kill had an excellent dub but the trailer for it sucked, but barely covered more than a few words a character. This is showcasing what seems like almost the entire voice cast showing a range of emotions.

Finally caught back up on all of my anime. Shame nobody seemed to like Babysitters. It's been knocking it out of the park pretty much every week for a while now.

I've been watching it! And liking it! It's mostly good (though I hate the OP and ED). I just feel like the pacing could be a little better maybe? Just a little bit slow at times.

Maybe I'll watch it after the season ends. I skipped over it initially because comedy involving babies so often devolves into gross-out humor. Reading reviews now though it looks like Babysitters leans more into adorableness instead.

Kanami is girl of the season and I refuse to hear otherwise. I hope Katana Maidens does well enough that they make a decent figure of her someday because I'm an idiot who would pay almost anything for one.

Speaking of, is there any way to tell how well an anime is actually doing? I tried googling this but couldn't find anything. Since they air on TV in Japan, are there ratings?

I already made a post about this last week but I feel like there are some pretty substantial and legitimate complaints to be made against that show.

Does it deserve second to last on that list? Eh, maybe not, but I can definitely see why it isn't that popular of a show.

Not even close. The tone of the show is the complete opposite. Never heard of "anime feminist", but sounds like it's a group of misinformed people who judge products without actually viewing them themselves based on their misconceived assumptions.

I don't think it's a fantastic show, but I do think you'd have to basically go in with a lot of preconceived notions in order to come out with the impression that it's a wish fulfillment show.

Yes, it's quality is obviously subjective. That impression of it is not. It's factually innacurate.

It would be like me seeing clips of the reactions to food in Food Wars and saying "oh, it's a show about rape".

I don't think it's quite factually inaccurate, since I do think many of Kondo's monologues can be interpreted to support the hypothesis. To me it's more like a position that requires either ignoring or missing the larger context of these scenes and the overall tone of the show, rather than a position that's just outright wrong.

I just feel like you'd have to be ignoring the entire show to come to those conclusions.

It's the kind of thought process you reach when...well, not actually watching it and just having someone else tell you about it.

Anyway, now that I've looked at the numbers some more I'm at least happy to see Yuru Camp is apparently killing it. Katana Maidens also a 2-cour so hopefully it picks up a bit later on. I must say, 3000 being the measure for success seems high when most of those shows apparently won't get anywhere near it.

I just finished the seventh Kara no Kyoukai movie and... I'm going to stop there, even though there only seems to be three shorter movies left. I don't want to write too much because I don't like being negative and I know a lot of people here really liked them, but these movies were not for me at all. There were individual moments in the first six that were alright (it's hard to screw up good music paired with neat fight scenes) but as a whole I found them nonsensical and, quite frankly, boring. Then the seventh movie... I swear, if someone set out with the express purpose of writing a story that would piss me off, they would create the seventh Kara no Kyoukai movie.

Regardless, I'm glad I watched them. I'm still new to anime and missteps like this will help me narrow down the kinds of things I like and the kinds of things I don't. I'll just chalk this up as another instance of my opinions diverging wildly from the norm.

I had a feeling this was coming. Sad to hear, but don't feel like your opinions being off norm makes them less valid. The movies are not for everyone.
