I would rather shoot someone before they can hurt my family. Why hide while waiting for the cops when they could fine and kill you in that time?

You would rather risk your family's life by playing cowboy and attacking an intruder (fun fact, it's usually a family member shot by accident) before hiding and hoping they go away?

Jesus what kind of valuables do you people have that you are willing to risk your family's lives over?
It better be solid gold bars or irreplaceable photographs.

My house is very small. For them to search the whole house wouldn't take long. And just hiding means they if they find us, they could kill us way before the cops would get here. I would rather me and family stay alive rather than hiding and dying because I didn't do anything. I'm not playing cowboy, either. Every situation is different, though. So, depending on the situation, maybe I won't shoot. But if I had to shoot the intruder to protect my family, then I will.

What the fuck is your problem? You're acting like I'm just going to shoot immediately. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. But as soon as something happens, I'll make the decision based on that. The first thing I would do is try to make sure my family is safe and hiding. And if I have to take shot, I will. I;m not just going to openfire and empty a clip just because. And I would try not to shoot, of I did't have to. But if I felt that it was necessary, I would. And I would also make sure not to aim at my family. I would hope I would hit anybody except the person I'm aiming at, if possible. Don't sit there and act like you know me from me answering one question. I would do what was necessary to protect my family. If you don't agree, I don't fucking care. And if you wouldn't do what it took to protect your family, then that's on you.

I'm just asking questions dude, you're the one freaking out, I can't even imagine how volatile you'd be in a situation like that.
You seem like maybe a 7/10 on the responsible gun owner scale but what about the people who aren't? They're the problem.

All my life people have been telling me "life isn't fair" and now that's the only excuse people can seem to give.
Tough shit. Some asshole (well, hundreds and hundreds, and statistics and facts) ruined your gun fun so now you all have to suffer. Fucking deal with it and find a new hobby.

A lot of invader shootings are shoot first ask questions never. Which is how family members get shot by accident.

It seems like some people in here wouldn't even attempt to communicate with the intruder. They're the problem.

You're telling me you've never sneaked back into the house after curfew?

To the people who say it depends on the situation. Here's one for you.
You hear a loud noise and look down and see your loved one bleeding out on the floor. There's more gunfire coming from your neighbor's house and you see a shadow with a gun pointed right at you.

You shoot him. Woops turns out it was your neighbor and your loved one got hit by a stray bullet that missed his intruder. Now they're both dead but hey at least you still have your gun!

I mean, first I'd have to get to the whichever gun safe my gun is in and open that to retrieve a gun, then I'd have to head to the ammo safe, which legally must be a separate safe, and open that to retrieve some ammo and load the gun.

By the time I've done all that, the guy's probably stolen most of my shit and left, so no.

You trip in the streets, you bump in to a little guy spilling his coffee all over him, he gets angry at you so you get belligerent right back.

Later that night you turn on the news, you bumped in to Kim Jong Un, he has declared nuclear war on you and the following day you and your house is a glowing crater. Now you and your immediate neighbours are dead but hey at least you got to use your feet and exercise free speech!

This is of course the best arguement for putting everybody in wheelchairs and denying them freedom of speech.

Bullets can travel more than twenty feet no contest. I've shot all kinds of guns before and unless it's an Albany expression, I've never heard of a single gun that can't.

Makes sense. TVs are not worth more than human lives, after all.

Note that it doesn't say you have to sit there and do nothing - there's a crime in progress, and you are allowed to attempt to stop it after all - you're just not allowed to deliberately kill the guy doing it. I don't know of too many people who can fight or run very well while carrying a TV, so dropping the guy wouldn't be particularly difficult.

It's called adrenaline, dude. Did you know that in a lot of cases where some one shoots out of self defense, they remember only firing once when in fact they fired multiple times? It's because the part of your brain that goes "oh shit I'm gonna die" gets lit up like mad, and takes over.

And yes, this is also why a lot of innocent people get killed by guns. You see a dark shape at night and your brain enters kill first, think later mode.

Exactly. And you think somebody in that state should be able to accidentally kill innocent people? You said it yourself, they freak out and aren't aware of their actions.

Do you guys blame the cop who hid and didn't take out the shooter with his gun? And now teachers who get paid less, get trained less, are in the middle of the shootout, and are scared out of their fucking minds are going to perform better? Absolutely not.
