I understand why the populist alt-right movement approve of him. I understand why nationalists approve of him. I understand why corporatists approve of him.

But why do so many devout Christians seemingly approve of him? Trump is an incredibly sinful man and he shows no remorse over it. He is prideful, vain, selfish, greedy, gluttonous, wrathful and driven by physical lusts. Humans have desires but he doesnt even try to suppress them it seems. Instead he embraces the decadence.

My very devout maternal grandmother, may she rest in peace, who strived to walk in the light of the Lord despite having lived a very hard life would be beyond mortified if she knew about Trump.

Donald Trump is in my opinion a false idol who pretends to be a shepherd.

They're able to overlook his various personal failings because he promotes the conservative agenda.

While he's not a conservative at heart, he's rather easily swayed by whoever has his ear at the moment.

So, if you can get into his good graces he can do shit like ban trans people from the military or advocate to overturn the Johnson amendment.

Because at their core, the religious right, like any political group, are more concerned with pushing their agenda than with actual morality. It's especially shitty for them, though, because they still try to retain the moral high ground when they've obviously lost it a long time ago.

They don't approve of him as another Christian, they approve of him as the President in spite of his moral failings because they realize they can't expect every politician to be a saint or even remotely close to one, so they support someone that can best represent their political interests, not their religion or morals.

This makes sense - I can see it. There isnt much religion in politics where I live which is why it becomes so foreign to me. The Champions of Christianity here place full focus on being a good fellow man who help those in need the best they can.

I am not American so I wont pretend to be on one of your two teams. It must be possible to criticize one without this weak deflecting to the other. And I am talking about devout Christians who didnt merely vote for Trump with their fingers across their nose to block out the smell but who actually support him. Hillary is a sinner too but how does that justify Trumps actions?

Evangelical Christianity in this country is more a political machine than a religious one, and generally has little relation to the actual teachings of Christ. As we've seen, you can be the literal embodiment of the seven deadly sins and still get overwhelming support just as long as you pay lip service to their causes.

There's also the laughable bit of heresy known as the "prosperity gospel" that's gained traction in America for some reason.

But if you watch the media, you would think he's the devil incarnate. TBH I'm more concerned about the sheer hatred of Trump in this country (which is mainly caused by media bias) than anything Trump himself has done.

One, no one here said Obama was a Muslim. However, an anti-Muslim stance is certainly appealing to lots of Christians, especially evangelicals.

Two, Trump was anti-abortion during his campaign whereas Obama never was regardless of whether or not abortions went down under his presidency (so fucking what?).

Three, people complained (not just Christians) about his church because its leader was an anti-American bigot who told lies to his congregation (like for example, that the white man invented the AIDS virus to wipe out black people).

So NO.

From what I heard Wright she he believed the US government was had the capability to do such a thing. And the US's record when it comes to how they treat black people when it comes to this stuff is not one that is not with out his black eyes.
