| faramir77 01/28/18 4:09:28 PM #27: | To those complaining about taxes, I don't know how it works in the US but Canada is EXTREMELY decentralized, easily the most decentralized country in the first world. Provinces have much more power to govern themselves than states do and the federal government really only has power over foreign affairs (diplomacy and military) and constitutional law. Health care, education, infrastructure, etc. all belongs to the provinces. When people say "Canada has universal health care" they really mean "every province in Canada has agreed individually that universal health care is a human right". This decentralization has led to big differences in taxes between provinces. Here in Alberta, we pay less taxes than much of the US. Provinces like New Brunswick or Quebec pay taxes that are astronomical. And I get an honest laugh at people complaining about "lack of free speech in Canada".
