LMAOing @ The people in this topic bitching about customers who come in during business hours.

Get the fuck over it.

If your sign says it closes at 10:00 and I get there at 9:53, best believe that I'm going in. When I do, then it would only be for a couple of things (I'll spare you the walk to return the cart/hand basket back the store) usually. However, if it's a two-cart shopping visit, then obviously I'd drive those extra miles and go to a 24 hour store.

I'm there to get my shit and get out for my own convenience, not to appease you disgruntled, and self-entitled cryployees with no sense of work ethic.

If you're at a store at 9:53 which closes at 10, it's unlikely you're getting in easily. The In doors would usually be locked by then meaning you'd have to pull open a heavy out door (sometimes twice). That's a sign you only care about yourself and not the employees who are ready to go home.

While not staying open until 10 PM means false advertisement, you should really be considerate to the employees and not show up late enough to force them into overtime. They want to get home to their regular lives as soon as possible.

And what, salaried people dont want to go home to their regular lives instead of working unpaid overtime? A job is a job, every responsible employee sacrifices their own time and dime for their job to some extent. But here you have people admitting they spit in peoples food for being forced to work minor overtime, but maybe thats exactly the kind of attitude why theyre working a shitty job in the first place

The problem with new customers coming into a store before closing time is that they won't leave until well after closing time, meaning employees have to delay closing up the shop for one guy who couldn't just wait until the next day.

If you can finish your shit before closing time, I really don't care because I have to be there anyway. But if I have to go an extra 15-20 minutes past my shift because you just want to casually browse around, fuck off. My time is just as important as yours and retail workers don't get paid enough to go "above and beyond" for the store.

(I work at a 24 hour store so this doesn't necessarily apply to me, but I sympathize with people who have to deal with this.)

I don't get why people are complaining about new customers twenty to thirty minutes before closing. That's plenty of time to buy things if you know what you want. I understand if it's a restaurant since there is a lot more cleaning up and food preparation but if it's a regular retail store like a pharmacy, then come on. Someone who doesn't know what they want is annoying but someone who can come in twenty to thirty minutes before a store closes and knows what they want shouldn't be a problem.

It depends on what the business is imo. If it's a restaurant, then definitely get there at least a half hour before closing or about 15 minutes if it's fast food . A store or gas station is fair game as long as you're in and out before closing time.

In every job I've worked, if you had work to do after your shift, you did it. No ifs, ands or buts. No extra pay, no cutting customers off, you just did the extra work. So if that meant staying 20 minutes past the end of your shift, tough shit.

So why are people in this topic complaining about not being able to knock off twenty minutes early instead of staying to your designated time? Are you all really that entitled?

I'm not complaining, but if you work for free because you have to, and not because you're doing them a favor, that's some no no shit.

Must be nice to not have to do what your boss asks.

Your boss asking you to work for free is illegal ...that's free labor and your boss isn't entitled to that, period.

We can all agree that if you're there shopping past closing time, you're the one being the entitled dick correct? I don't work retail, I just find people who think the world revolves around them or that their time is more valuable than others to be pieces of shit.

We can, at the very least, agree that people who stay shopping past closing time are dicks right?

I'll run in a store and be out 15 minutes before close if I know for a fact I can make it and it's not something ridiculous like asking a deli that's clearly all broken down and cleaned to cut meat for me(douche move) ...but I'd never be that total piece of shit who walks in at 9:50 to start a shopping cart full of shopping in a place that closes at 10.

I usually give people a little leeway if they come 30 minutes before closing. Usually its just only milk and baby formula. But if you come into the store at like 5 min before closing with your WIC coupons while taking a cart you are an asshole. If you also come at 5 min before closing, say your getting milk and or formula but instead get a 30 pack of beer you are also an asshole.

Where I used to work, store policy was that you were to be in the checkout line by closing. There was no leeway given to shoppers to let them buy anything other than they already had in their basket or needed behind the cigarette case once the final closing announcement is sent over the PA. After all, the policy is closing the store, not only closing off the entrance.

I had a couple of hourly jobs before I finished school.

One of them was at a restaurant. We got paid in 15 minute increments on the time clock. You got paid how long you stayed but it was unpleasant staying late sometimes. I had another job which was more technical sales for a small business. I worked every Saturday. The place was supposed to close at noon but we rarely got out until 1 pm. I was happy to have the job because my boss worked around my school hours.

I saw them as a means to an end. I was working towards something bigger. If your aspirations are lifetime retail, I can see how your frustrations might lead to being angry about staying late.

I've never worked retail, but I didn't mind people who came in very late at McDonald's. We would only turn them away if they wanted something from the fryers (chicken or fish) because those take quite a while to finish. Otherwise we would do whatever.

I guess I didn't have a spouse or children at that time that I wanted to go home to, though, so I didn't mind getting OT or having some of my schedule lopped off later.

Huh. I really don't put restaurants (including fast food) in the retail category. That doesn't make sense to me at all.

You're ringing up sales and providing customer service so, it's on the edge of resturant/retail experience. That's why I said it's loosly considered working in retail.
