My DVD for the merge/final 8/final 7 is broken. Like, looking at the back of it, it's like some crystalline pattern was etched into the material. It's bizarrely beautiful, but otherwise annoying and forcing me to watch elsewhere.

That sucks. Some of the discs on my Pearl Islands DVD look funky but they work fine.

She's a brat like her Mall Rats buddies, but doesn't have enough of a personality to warrant her inclusion in the season. Like them or hate them, Silas, Lindsey and Brandon are all memorable. But Kim P. is part of the brat clique without being interesting.

Lindsey is an absolutely hilarious bitch who screamed like a banshee when she got a tick on her ass, experienced her period within the first few days of the game, beat Carl in the first tiebreaker, melted down at Linda. She's so horrible that it loops back to being unintentionally hilarious.

Man it's weird to see how much product placement was in early seasons. That sorta disappeared for a while, then came back around HvV, then disappeared again around Philippines.

KP is the only one of the Mall Rats that's likable, but that's because she's not doing anything otherwise. Lindsey, Brandon, and Silas are all fun to root against and that adds a lot to the season. Brandon also was the first to do the Chaos Kass move, which got him promptly shunned all the same.

I don't think KP deserves to be so low. She doesn't deserve to be high by any means. She's not a detestable character but she's not the most rootable person in the world. I'd put her around 10th or so that season, above Brandon, Diane, Jessie, Lindsey, and Silas and on par with Linda.

You keep saying this but there aren't enough pairs of teams that have never played on either BvW or SJDS, and I can't believe they'd bring back a pair that already played together with that twist. And out of pairs that have never played together outright we've got Parvati/Fincher and Kim P/Alex. Plus Russell/Brandon who are basically blacklisted from CBS at this point.

I changed my mind tremendously about Lindsey on this rewatch. My feelings about her overall still definitely fall into the "mixed" category but she's one of the more unique female characters in the first three seasons. She's like a less mature and more emotionally complex Kelly W, and I honestly think she would have made a good All-Stars choice back in the day (not now, a premerge boot from 15 years ago does not need to come back at this point, but she probably should have replaced Amber in 8).

decided to just try to finish up Blood v. Water 1 before continuing with to SJDS. watched up to episode 7 last time near its airing so i'm skipping around the first 7 episodes to recap.

i'm actually liking it a lot more than last time. i'm more receptive to the whole theme of the season because of preexisting interest in most of the returning cast so that kind of transfers to their respective loved ones. so i think when i get to SJDS after this i'll probably like it more since the premise was one of my concerns going in.

Tina is still great. Katie is great. Vytas is great. Tyson is still great. Caleb is cool. Colton still sucks.

oh yeah and Redemption Island still most definitely sucks.

I think she's great TV, at the very least. I mean, SHE VOTED OUT HER MOM OMG!!!!1!!!!! Sorry, I had to. That move was not as strategically significant as Probst insists it is, hence why it makes for such a good running joke.

Heroes vs. Villains is still the premiere that gets me the most hyped. Still kind of annoyed it didn't live up to my expectations.

Jeff with the "10 most notorious villains of all time" line just immediately draws attention and gets people thinking about how the casting could have been better though.

She just doesn't feel as lovable as Rupert. At least the story for Rupert told us his history with bullying and then evidence of said bullying and things like that. I don't feel that connection here with Jane. I guess I would buy here being a dime store, female version of Rupert.

I think it's also the opposition. Back in the day, Jonny Fairplay was utterly reviled. Nowadays, the fans LOVE cocky masterminds regardless of how much masterminding they actually DO. So Jane looks worse in opposition to Marty than Rupert did in opposition to Jon.

Rupert is relatable in that he was bullied and had been through a lot and, at first, wasn't particularly the best at managing his anger. While him nearly murdering Jonny Fairplay made it harder to sympathize with him, who could blame someone like Rupert wanting to show a bully who's boss? It was just HOW he did it that was very off-putting.

Casuals HATED Jonny Fairplay. Me, I find him to be one of the most interesting characters Survivor has ever had, even to this day. Yes, he was a sack of shit during Pearl Islands. Yes, it was hard to root for him. But boy, is he entertaining.

Jane meanwhile isn't exactly lovable. She is good casting solely because of her entertainment index, but Marty is the more rootable of the two. He's also not a bully. He's just a strategist who lies about beating tennis players at chess. Jane... what kind of backstory did we even get on her? I don't remember. Nicaragua sucked.

She's a tough cookie, her husband died, Sash says she's like a mother to him well she wouldn't want to be his mother his mother did a bad job, she threw water on the fire, and that damn Chase back stabbed another North Carolina person and he better never go back to North Carolina.
