Laguna has had a few bad years, but he's mostly enjoyed high levels of success. He has 12 top 25 finishes, with 7 of those being top 10s, finally making it to the finals this year after falling short a couple other times. With this performance, Laguna rises from 69.20% to 70.86%, passing Yuffie and Locke for 14th place overall. He's the second highest ranked FFVIII character behind only Squall.

Laguna's numbers in the New Era are lower, but this performance helped to close the gap. There, he jumped from 62.11% to 68.25%, passing Hope, Terra, Steiner, Rinoa, Aerith, Edgar, and entering a virtual tie with Kefka for 22nd place. He's the second highest ranked FFVIII character here now, too. In the Old Era, Laguna was at 72.16%, between Auron and Dagger for 9th place. He was the top ranked FFVIII character there.

Anyway, congratulations to Steiner, MWC, Chris and everyone else who made this dream come true. I had nothing to do with it but to smile and nod that it finally happened.

You did it for you, not me, but just the same? Much appreciated.

I actuall did it for every VII fan on the board. Specifically I more than anything (except myself) did it for either you or Steiner Esq, whichone one I PMdd after Steiner (the character) won and said let's do it for Cloud next year l, but unfortunately that person was dedicated to another character next year (probably cause of Chris ironically, lol). Whichever one it was though I did it for that guy more than most.

*ahem* Anyway, this is the part where people do a victory speech right? Well I can't really claim to have supported Kuraudo all contest... but he is my favourite character and I have backed him so much over the years. That loss to Rydia hurt and I wasn't sure if Cloud would get such a chance again.

For that, Steiner and MWC deserve much of the praise for Cloud's victory for the consistency and longevity of their support over this contest. Who would have thought MWC's kerrazzee Day 90+ saves would pay off so well!?

Thanks to all who saved Cloud. Laguna - a worthy opponent and one I wouldn't have minded if Cloud lost to. Commiserations to his supporters.

Despite Cloud being the main character of FFVII, he's only really enjoyed consistent top tier success in recent years. He has 11 top 25 finishes, but only two top tens. However, he's made it to the finals both years he made the top ten. With this victory, Cloud increases from 64.51% to 66.37%, passing Dagger and Edgar for 19th place overall. He's the third highest ranked FFVII character, behind Yuffie and Tifa.

Cloud's been one of the best in the New Era though. There, he increases from 80.34% to 83.62%, passing Tidus and Rikku for 6th place. He is the highest ranked FFVII character. In the Old Era, Cloud was at 58.41%, putting him between Faris and Porom (yes, you read that right) for 25th place.

This was a good year. Rinoa nearly made top 10, Lightning kept her top 5 streak alive, and Vanille did really well too. My only regret is Lumina getting hard-booted but what can you do.

I'll try to support Garnet/Cyan next year but honestly I'm not sure how much I'll participate in the future. Round times don't typically sync with my sleep schedule but for these last three weeks I needed to get up early anyway to help take care of some family stuff so it still worked out. However, even though I was still getting eight hours a night, I felt absolutely terrible the entire time. Today was my first day reverting to my old sleep schedule and I already feel a lot better. I don't think I want to put myself through that again.

Still, it was a fun contest and I'm sure I'll see you all again!

While I wasn't a Cloud backer until FFX took its exit, I always thought that Cloud should win one of these eventually. He is arguably the face of the franchise if you had to pick one face for the franchise. So I am happy he won here.

I usually get to the top 10 and then wonder who in the top 10 I've saved, so I kept track this year.

Lulu I probably traded with Prof once, and saved her for free a different round.
Barrett I traded for a while back, the furthest character back I saved.
Tidus I free saved a few times, a couple times when he was in the bottom 10 and I felt like it.
Kain I free saved a lot early on, but I think I avoided saving him once since top 20.
Vanille I traded with Inviso once, and I think I saved for free once.
Minwu I first saved during the rush to get him into top 20, then once Gravy's alliance went to him, which ended top 10, saved him for free a few times.
Laguna I also free saved a few times.
Finally... Cloud I saved once. In the Finals.

Leaving this year... I never saved Lightning or Squall of the top 10. Weather sucks
