For years I have hated how idiotic it is to split the same board into 300 parts

My suggestion was to merge all the boards into one, and if there is a system specific topic, someone could just pick a falir and specifing the console

Moderation is a problem in that it's never done except to the known trolls (or "trolls" with some people)

I've marked several spoilers without warning and it's never actually resulted in a moderation. Mod system is basically just to dick over people the mods don't like at this point.

Mods seem to have gone off the rails lately. In the last few months, I've got a couple of 3KLs and even got warned once for what were essentially run-of-the-mill conservative/libertarian political opinions. Appeals don't do anything anymore - I remember a few years ago I'd get half my moderations overturned once a sane Lead Mod would read them. The politics board deletes anything outside of the neo-lib/neo-con (i.e. globalist) bubble of ignorance. Doubtless, these changes will only make the mods even more trigger-happy to smash non-globalist opinions. I'll probably be forced to only run BABE BRAWL and not post anything political here in the near future.

Yeah that doesn't surprise me. Most every time I see a moderated post it's pretty much an easy target. I've seen Timjab for example purg'd for the most borderline stuff that I probably couldn't get moderated were I to post it, even at a no karma loss level, if I wanted to. It's either the mods themselves having vendettas, certain mark happy people having "mod pockets," or mods deciding their verdict entirely based off of moderation STATZ. None of these are good and I don't really think any of the proposed changes are going to affect that either.

I want to make it clear though that I feel the board as a whole is probably under-moderated, not over. It's just certain people who are over-moderated, while on the other side being super lenient with everyone else.

timjab is a pretty bad example because it took ages for him to get banned. he could've been banned a gazillion times before for a lot of the shit he posted.

I agree with this. I play lots of old games... Especially since new ones suck. Would hate to get something important spoiled.

An ideal solution would be that if a post is marked as potential spoilers without warning, the entire post is automatically concealed by spoiler text, with repeat occurances and abuse of the marking system as punishable offenses.

But yeah if you go into a Ace Attorney playthrough topic for example and post a certain picture of 2-4 and say "it's not a spoiler it's a 15 years old game" then yeah we have a problem

Also this joke is gross and directly made at my expense and I marked it seriously weeks ago because it was an eyesore. No one cares though, even when the guy who is being harassed marked it, because greengravy289 does not have mod frequent flier miles or whatever.

I mean I obviously don't even care that much but I sorta just wanted to see if I could get anything I marked actually moderated. And the answer to that seems to be no. Maybe I'm moderation blacklisted or something.

imo timjab is a strong argument for why mods should be lenient on flaming/offensive/etc.

timjab is often violently abrasive and insulting and I'm not defending that. but he also provides a unique perspective and a lot of knowledge. if there's a topic discussing, say, a traffic stop gone bad, then I WANT timjab in the discussion to explain (a) the legal rules in play and (b) the likely disciplinary procedures the cop is going to face. probably this will come with some potshots at people he disagrees with, but I'd rather have that than lose his perspective entirely. (and I mean, people take potshots at him constantly so it's not a one-sided thing)

Whether it's a joke shouldn't be (and spoilers, isn't-- don't you recall that time that like 80 people got purg'd for making jokes about that girl who burnt in a dumpster because one of the mods knew her or something) a determining factor. Whether it's offensive should be. If I'm the topic of the joke and mark it as such, that should remove that question.

I think TRE would be nice since he was an actual mod once. But if he stepped down for that, I don't see him being eager to be a pseudomod either.

I wouldn't be opposed to the "job" myself but that probably wouldn't be a good idea for multiple reasons. >_>


As for people saying things that are "offensive". There are two instances I can think of.

1. The statement is offensive to someone who read it. In which case... they could explain why the statement upset them. Perhaps ask the person who posted it to edit/delete it. If they don't do that then well... mod discretion. Granted there's always going to be subjectiveness when it comes to what's "offensive". Some people get offended more easily, and even those with thick skin can get upset over things other people don't see is a very big deal.


2. Something that's blatantly and obviously offensive. Like if you're talking about how "[race of non-fictional people] are nothing but deranged savages that should die" then no shit you're getting marked. I love it when people intentionally say something provocative, then get prissy when they get in trouble for saying it.
