It's better than ME1. Not as good as ME2 or 3, but that's a pretty high bar to clear!

Well BioWare Montreal merged with EA Motive almost two months ago so this was a forgone conclusion. Still, sucks. Andromeda was a fine, if inessential, game that cost too much money to develop, but it's still quite strange that one of the biggest franchises in modern games is now dormant.

I am actually interested in the two upcoming novels.

Less because it's Mass Effect and more because they're being written by two of the finest writers working in spec fic.

Andromeda is a game with many problems, but also showed plenty of potential. Its combat was amazing, dialogue system not great, cast too hit-and-miss, story a rip-off of the trilogy, sidequests better developed than the ones in Inquisition (and the ME trilogy tbh) and the class-changing was a lot of fun.

But I've said it before, Mass Effect's future is completely dependent on Anthem. If it flops, it will be safer financially to revive and revitalize the ME franchise as opposed to making an Anthem 2. If Anthem 2 is succesful, we'll never see another ME game, or it will be after a very long time.

I'm surprised we've yet to see an "enhanced" collection selling the whole trilogy and all DLC on one disk. Even at $60, it would be big money.

I've barely played ME1 and never touched the rest of the series, but I do feel like the video game industry was robbed of having essentially its own type of Star Wars trilogy. I don't feel bad about EA and Bioware making whatever mistakes they make -- they have to own that -- but the series was incredibly important at one point and this was the closest to anything touching Ocarina of Time for being like THE game saga-experience to ever play. I wanted that for the industry and I wonder when we'll ever approach that again.

I thoroughly did not enjoy the game on any front, bugs be damned, so really I can't bring myself to feel anything about this. Shame for those who somehow managed to enjoy it, regardless of my feelings. I don't think there was anything they could have done to make me interested in playing any DLC after doing 100% on every planet.

I honestly feel like ME1-3 did give people that. It wasn't as universally beloved as Star Wars, but it's still easily the most "nostalgic" collection of games from the modern era. ME1 isn't even ten years old at the moment, but it feels so much older because players got so damn emotionally invested in the games, and THAT didn't truly happen until ME2. By the time ME became unquestionably relevant in the industry, we had already had a dozen GameFAQs contests. Most fans have only been playing the games for like seven years, but it feels like we've been talking about them for 20!

Man, when I beat the third game, I was sad. Not because of how the ending played out, but because I had to stop LIVING with these characters. The epic was done. No more moments with Garrus, no more checking in with Liara, and no more experiencing the stories of all the different races and peoples. Do you know how much that sucked? To not be able to experience that world anymore? And how impressive it is that Bioware made a world where you can still feel like you want to keep experiencing it and all the people in it after 250-300 hours?

Mass Effect was THE game saga. Each game on its own isn't necessarily the best game of all time (especially not the first one), but there is no continuous story in video game history that was as amazing as the Mass Effect trilogy. And it's totally on par with Star Wars as a space epic. In my opinion, it's better, but that's just me.

Yeah for all the faults you might or might not have with it, playing it continuously through 3 games with your choices altering stuff was really cool. Could have done more in terms of your choices having an impact but that's a production issue and I'm more than satisfied with what we got

The worst thing about the Andromeda debacle is the people who just didn't like the game because they thought it wasn't very good getting shouted at by people calling them idiots and saying they're just following the herd and memes, and only hate it because the bugs.

Like, playing the game for over 60 hours and doing every single mission and then when you say you don't think it was good because of the story and characters people straight up call you a liar and claim you never played the game?

Can you even imagine being so defensive that you totally shut down anyone who doesn't like the game you like?

I honestly thought there might be some hidden payoff somewhere in the story, but the main reason I did everything is that I didn't know until after I beat it that they weren't planning to carry over to another game. Thought this was the start of a new trilogy.

And someone did specifically accuse me of lying, but I don't remember who it was. Was in that same topic at least.

Oddly enough I know it wasn't Smuffin because he directly asked me what my issues with the game were.

I feel bad for the people who worked on it, but this game deserves it. I'm glad a rushed sequel game full of bugs finally got destroyed and burned the company. It teaches a lesson to stop doing that crap. Like, Street Fighter V did the same thing and while Marvel vs Capcom Infinite has a bunch of unrelated issues with it, the one thing they did was learn and take feedback from all the people who dumped on their game to make sure they didn't make the same mistakes.
