Just played a sick game.

Quest priest mirror. (Wait, what?)

He starts with a soft lock on the board until I play Feugen and use the 4/7 to muscle in some trades and eventually snag the board back. In the course of this, we both play Elise. He also plays Raza, so I know he's only got one copy of everything. I get a pack off shadow visions and open it for another Elise.

We finish our quests concurrently, but he eventually puts enough pressure on the board I'm forced to play mine. I drop Amara along with Elise #2, and he tosses most of his board to break through. Meanwhile, I'm sitting on Entomb and a 0-cost Convert (from a Glyph), just waiting for either N'Zoth or Amara to hit. When I play Sylvannas, and he entombs her, I know I've got the stronger long game.

I drop a shade and a shredder, and he blows his Kazakus potion to sheep the board. I answer with Stalagg, but he responds with N'Zoth, which regurgitates a Sylvannas, and I know there's no way I'm holding onto Thaddeus. So I trade as much as I can, convert his N'Zoth, and accept I'm going to have to entomb my own Thaddeus.

Predictably, he trades, but then he stuns me with Sudden Genesis, copying both that and a 6-attack...something. Whatever the case is, I'm at 40 health, and he still has lethal on board. I decide to gamble on N'Zoth and get both Feugen and Stalagg...but no taunt.

However, he doesn't realize he has 40 damage on board. To my shock, he starts trading, blows my Feugen and Stalagg, and trades his two Thaddeuses (Thadeii?) into mine. I open a second pack, and then a third, but we're really just trading blows back and forth. All the while, I'm still holding onto my Entomb.

I go into fatigue about 4 cards before he does, and we start playing footsies with an Excavated Evil. Somehow I steal like 5 copies of Brann from his deck over the span of this game. My last pack gives me a Kalimos, which brings me back to 40 and finally breaks his board presence. He kills it, but now I've got a 6-atk Pyros pecking at him.

He tries everything he can to get rid of this Pyros. It's gotta stick for me, because all I have beyond that is a Northshire and that Entomb. But he's down to 20 (he had 10 armor from Kazakus) and finally decides to toss Amara for tempo. I thank him, entomb it, and he immediately concedes.

Probably Ironbeak Owl, surprisingly. Even with the nerf it's still probably worth considering as a silence option in any deck that runs the Curator.

Also poor Huhuran. Remember when that was supposed to be the savior for Hunter?

Funny you said Ironbeak Owl, because I was considering Spellbreaker as the answer. Owl probably wins for being a cheaper silence, though.

Plus the beast tag gives it so much added utility.

It's so painful to watch when you know you're going to lose to a terrible player. Either because your draw sucked or their deck is just a good answer to yours, or whatever.. Seeing people make the worst plays possible and knowing you can't do anything about it. blegh.

Probably the most convincing anti-Ice Block argument (for me), which I haven't even heard here yet, is that it's a guaranteed "control a secret" for turn after turn after turn. So frustrating that you can play it turn 2 or 3 and proc every special effect in your deck.

Whoever said it earlier was probably right that Alex is the bigger issue in terms of the prolonging the game argument.

Like, really?

"Summon an 8/8 and deal 15 damage to your opponent."

or

"Summon an 8/8 and heal 14 health to your hero."

Is crazy powerful.

I am not often at a loss at the end of a Hearthstone game, but once again I find myself in such a situation.


I was playing arena with a 7-2 paladin deck. It's far from the best deck ever (only 1 spikeridge steed), but i drafted 5 weapons and they were all seeing pretty good use and were helping to carry me to victory.

I run into a warlock and i'm on board early and he's wasting his early turns life tapping. By turn 5 I have a stranglethorn tiger hiding and I've got 2 vine cleavers in hand and I"m ready to start racing to end this game. He's shown no realistic ability to handle my board and to stop me from connecting face a bunch of times for the win.


So my first vine cleaver hits him in the face, summons 2 dudes and my tiger hits face as well. He's pretty low at that point (12 hp?) and he doesn't have much of a board.


He plays gluttonous ooze.

Ouch, my vine cleaver is dead (wasting 2 charges) and he gains 4 armor.

But it's okay! I have another vine cleaver, I also have a tirion in hand that I discovered from stonehill defender.


So I play tirion. He uses some spell + minions to clear it.

And then he plays gluttonous ooze.

Ashbringer down. He gains 5 armor and I got to use 0 charges of it. This bites. My tiger connected face at least once more during this and I still think I can finish the job because he's having to trade most of what board he has at this point, but i'm running out of steam.


so I play my other vine cleaver, hit him in the face, summon 2 dudes, and take him to 2ish health with still 2 more charges of vine cleaver swings.

HE PLAYS A THIRD GLUTTONOUS OOZE.


May I REMIND YOU that this is an EPIC CARD that you will not often draft INFINITY copies of. Nor will you necessarily have them ALL READY TO GO IN YOUR HAND IN THE FIRST HALF OF YOUR DECK.


Such a demoralizing loss -_-


But 180g is still nice, even though I feel like I got cheated from my 8th win.


At least I still have 1 free arena run left, hopefully I can get another deep run. But ugh who the hell drafts 3 gluttonous oozes and is able to get PERFECT value on all of them?

For a second there, I thought the card might be good in Quest Warlock; it would certainly help you clear the quest early.

Then I stopped being dumb and realized you'd probably just wind up discarding the quest.

Well not exactly, since it can be combo'd with things that gain tempo plus the fact that the opponent has to play around other things until they figure it out, which can mess with their tempo.

I feel like any time an arena player drafts 3 copies of a card its going to catch the opponent off guard. More so if its epics. I'm in the midst of a mage run right now where I drafted 3 meteors. One game I won because I hadn't drawn them all game, then when I really needed them I knew there were 3 in my last 10 cards. Sure enough, topdecked 2 in a row.

a turn 3 Ice Block is still really anti-tempo.

Heck, other than Secret Mage, no Mage wants to play any secret on T3; and even in Secret Mage, you only want to play it comboed with Kirin Tor Mage. There's a reason you should be mulliganning your Valets! And yes, putting your opponent on the right deck and thereby deducing what secrets he has in play is important. Making those reads is important.

Jesus fucking christ, Priest is like the most frustrating class to play against sometimes.

Thoughtsteal > Gets a molten reflection
Buffs up a taunt with Tentacle for Arms (4/10)
Molten reflection on the now huge taunt
Free from Amber > Ysera (behind two big taunts)
Curious Glimmeroot (which offers him Molten Reflection which of course he fucking knows started in my deck)

I'm pretty sure this was on all curve too or close to it. I managed to clear both the taunts just before he used Molten on Ysera

This card looks actually really fun, Warrior needs fun

The difference is Warrior now owns a ton of ways to damage their own minions early and this puts those Legendaries into play immediately

Although, it's fair if only because the legendary quality has fallen quite a bit (maybe that's why they added those princes!)

With 90% of Warriors class cards dealing 1 damage, that legendary looks like it's going to be fun.

I know. And I know that oozes in general are more common now. Even leading up to that game I've had multiple weapons either broken with the acidic swamp ooze or had charged removed by the red ooze whose name I forget. But that still typically gave me 2 charges per vine cleaver even if one charge got ooze'd, or at least the 2nd (3rd, 4th, 5th) weapon can go unchecked.


It's also just the fact that his 3 oozes destroyed 4 charges of 4 damage swings, prevented 8 1/1 dudes from spawning, and prevented 3 more damage of 5 damage swings.

The swing damage alone from that is 31 damage.
Oh and he gained 13 armor. That's a 44 health swing (even ignoring the 8 1/1s that didn't survive)
And he finished with 2 health and 4 armor.

All this happening after I correctly identified that it was time to end the game and that there was no realistic way he could prevent enough face damage to stay alive.




But it's okay, i'm getting equally screwed in my current run (3-2 atm) so the new pain is already causing yesterdays old pain to fade.

You see the difference though, right?

I'm not sure what specific cards you're referring to when you say "that combo" but it's tied to a 3 mana 3/4. So either you're doing a combo that turn and having to spend 3 mana to summon him, or you're depending on a 4 health minion living a turn.

Either way, the new DK Priest opens up new possibilities.
