The groups then were oversized (which caused a lot of disease) and they followed the same paths as everyone else, so the supplies were depleted. This shows that there never enough supplies and that the Indian Removal was handled poorly, but it also shows that Jackson wasn't some evil guy. He decided to use the power he was given by the Indian Removal Act to negotiate a treaty and trade the tribes' current land for new land (Oklahoma) because he believed that if they stayed in their current land it would have led to war.
