Surely there were other Lannisters in Jaime's army. Just not ones who count.

And at Casterly Rock since Dany probably wouldn't order the slaughter of unarmed women and children.

It's really noticeable how many of the great houses have been wiped out:

Martell: 0 remaining
Baratheon: 0 remaining (unless Gendry and/or other bastards get legitimized)
Tyrell: 0 remaining
Tully: 1 remaining
Targaryen: 1 (2) remaining
Greyjoy: 3 (4 if you want to say the priest is Damphair, although I doubt it)
Lannister: 3 remaining
Stark: 3 (4) remaining

And the only male Starks and Greyjoys (since Euron will probably die soon) are both incapable of carrying on the family line

No mention of the Arryns? Kind of funny but I guess that shows how unliked/forgettable they were for a Great House. But they're technically doing just fine with the kid safe even though Littlefinger runs The Vale.

Anyone else annoyed as hell that we're getting Euron Greyjoy so late? He was mentioned and in the books plenty, Kingsmoot a huge deal but the show didn't give a fuck about him til last season. He wasn't even mentioned in the show beyond 'your uncles sacked the riverlands' in one episode and that's it.

I think the showrunners really fucked up by focusing on Dorne instead of the Iron Islands, trying to cash in on the Oberyn Martell fandom. George RR Martin had to have sat them down and said 'hey dumbasses the Greyjoys are a big deal to the end game' or something. It's similar to their handling of the children of the forest. They're hardly mentioned, appear in one episode, then it's revealed they created the White Walkers. Ridiculous oversight to not spend more time on the mythology.

It'd be interesting to hear what goes on behind the scenes.

That's where all his problems stem from

I imagine they kept going back and forth on introducing him cuz they didn't want to introduce the dragon horn, and then finally decided to just bring him in without the horn

Ironically, I think their solution is a lot less believable than a magic dragon horn. Now Cersei's secret anti-Dragon weapon is....a big-ass ballista?

How the hell has no one ever thought to build a big-ass ballista?

I think there's no better way of fully illustrating why I love Jon Snow and can't stand Daenarys than the whole Missandei/Davos announcing them bit.

Missandei goes off on Dany's list of "accomplishments" which are all basically deus ex dragonfire or things she had others do for her.

Davos does a pretty bleh job of announcing Jon Snow and doesn't even bring up his ACTUAL accomplishments until he gets pissed off about Dany not taking him seriously.

That scene was so well done.

".....this is Jon Snow."

funny as hell.

You're absolutely right that the Iron Islands should have been in, instead of Dorne. But those are the sins of S4-5.

IIRC, one of the reasons we went to Dorne was not just because of Oberyn, but because of Ellaria's actress. Indira Varma apparently really impressed B&W. So... yeah.

Though personally, my inner book fan is kind of annoyed with the fact that he's referred to as 'Euron Greyjoy' instead of 'Euron Crow's Eye'...

I didn't take it as something that demonstrated my enjoyment of either character but I thought it was a great way of contrasting both characters - Daenerys' royal entitlement and ego vs. John's humble nature.

Well yeah no, that was an extremely personal reaction I had because of how it showed Dany's entitlement vs. Jon's humility.

I also fucking loved how Dany was talking about the Stark's sworn oath to the Targaryen crown and Jon was like "LMAO OATHS UR FATHER BURNED MY GRANDFATHER ALIVE FUCK OFF"

Yeah, not until it was actually necessary. It was an interesting scene and great contrast. The scene later where Jon says he doesn't like what he's good at is also great. It's a good contrast between Jon and, say, Daario. I can see why she'll find Jon more interesting than the other men she's encountered.

i was disappointed with the lack of visuals at first, but as JZ noted, a protracted battle with one named character is not going to be good.

also, skipping battles isn't a writing issue. as a show-only at the time, i never once felt like i missed out from not seeing whispering wood/green fork in S1.

this made me look back, since i know JZ and i discussed this earlier in the topic, and i realized i didn't respond to maria's long reaction, which is always fun. i don't have time to format an entire response yet, so here's just the response to the first scene or so

MariaTaylor posted...

AREN'T YOU THE ONE WHO HATCHED FUCKING DRAGONS
THAT ARE NOT REAL
why didn't anyone literally ANYONE bring this up

in fairness there is a VERY literal fossil record of dragons. but... yeah.

but for the first time maybe in the history of the show we're not supposed to just stand up and applaud for her
which felt nice

great point!

I didn't think her and jon had good chemistry which was great
some people are saying they did have chemistry
others are complaining that they didn't
also just for the tone of what was needed in these scenes it wouldn't make any sense for them to have chemistry but then still act like assholes toward each other

i don't think having chemistry precludes disagreeing at all! the hound and arya had chemistry, and they were at each other's throats. but even more pertinently, tywin and the queen of thorns had chemistry with each other.
