No, the overreaction to that video is not "sane." I can only assume an anti-sjw found it, then alerted their anti-sjw friends about it, because no, reasonable people would not pile on vitriol over a simple video about refugees simply talking about their lives.

Yeah I just watched it. It's a few refugees talking about how their lives have changed and how they are still going while looking towards their future. It's humanizing refugees, which is quite important. There will only be more and more refugees globally in the coming years.

yeah I can almost guarantee it's some stupid internet community effort. Most of the comments are fake accounts. Mixed in are the racists, the rednecks, and the feebs.

first of all I think this is romanticizing refugees. like they all have a story where they got out of an active warzone by the skin of their teeth, bullets grazing past their ears as they ran. usually not the case.

I also think this is patronizing refugees. They're not "special", they're just trying to live their lives. I'm sure they can find their own way in their new home.

finally, is this propaganda? yes. this is western propaganda because it's making out our nations and our people to be so generous as to let them in. as if we're not the ones who destabilized their region in the first place.

there is kind of a clash between western people and their own governments here. the government has the responsibility to accept these people, in my opinion, because they are partly responsible for the crisis causing them to move away from their homes. however, the citizens of the western nations don't understand why they have to live with this mass refugee crisis because the average person has and wants nothing to do with it. well, no surprise the government can exploit that to grow feelings of nationalism and the cycle continues.

This is all pretty on point. It's the government's fault foe destabilizing the region and now their wanting to look good by ushering in people from the region they themselves destabilized knowing damn well what would happen in the first. Easy to make these kind of decisions from your throne where the consequences of any of these decisions will have any effect on you and your family's safety. Such is the way of government though

Climate change is leading to massive population destabilization. It's not just war zones. And it is creating war zones.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/ominous-story-of-syria-climate-refugees/

Though those Western governments are complicit with pollution, the refugee situation is everyone's problem and it will only continue to be more pressing. Syria is (was) one of many countries that are at risk to destabilize.

They don't. Neighbouring countries have to accept refugees however these people choose to hike across Europe to take advantage of the UK's free support they are not entitled to. The UK didn't want to go in Syria in the first place so they definitely don't want to take on the responsibility erroneously.

Also, we have too many issues internally to be dealing with other countries' citizens.

it is an important factor in how things proceeded. It's not the only factor. But it will not be the only region or country facing serious issues and having a large population emigrating due to the effects of climate change.

The U.S. government even supports climate change as something that can cause a region to destabilize, and factor for mass migration. Bernie Sanders talked about it in his campaign. Shouldn't be new to anyone.

Sure, it's a known fact that extreme heat can cause people to be more violent. It's also quite convenient for governments to be pushing that as a cause for destabilization when anyone with half a brain knows that the middle east would probably be more or less fine now had we not invaded Iraq and then left it in shambles

Because we get to be the good guys as long as we take in refugees.

Those things are huge factors. They are the biggest ones. But it should not be ignored that climate change is leading to greater resource instability which exacerbates the situation. Refugees come from more places than Syria.

http://www.worldbank.org/en/news/press-release/2013/06/19/warming-climate-to-hit-bangladesh-hard-with-sea-level-rise-more-floods-and-cyclones-world-bank-report-says

There are 160 million people in Bangladesh. 30-60 million will be displaced permanently by the end of the century. Bangladesh is only one other country. Syria only had 3 million people displaced and look at how much difficulty other nations are experiencing trying to deal with that.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9162438

That's nearly 10% of the world population at risk just from sea level rise, one of the many things climate change is affecting. Heck, the US is going to have its own issues with large population displacement in the southeast before the end of the century.

If the refugee situation looks bad now, wait and see, it's going to get a lot worse.

Except no, the real problems go back far before anybody on this board was born. More importantly, the biggest problems right now were caused by the Democrats who actively worked to destablize the region and turned a small problem into a huge one. While the Republicans and Democrats have been both been hurting the region, the refugee crisis is the direct result of Democrat policies. That's not to say that the Republicans might not have made the same mistakes, but it was the Democrats who made them.

This isn't even the meaning of 'virtue signaling.' When you accuse someone of virtue signaling, you're accusing them of being fake, only championing a topic for superficial reasons, like good PR. You're accusing them of literally signaling people to notice their virtue.

A series of videos of refugees talking about their past lives, and yet unrealized aspirations hardly seems like virtue signaling, because while their reasons for sharing these videos is personal and self-serving (insofar as they want to appeal to the viewer's humanity), they are also about as far from superficial as one can get. This topic title is a complete nonsequitur.

It makes me sad that the alt-right is trying to ruin the insult "snowflake" now too.
It was a super useful word for roleplayers (while condescending, it's totally accurate) and a nifty Fight Club reference.

That said, it's overall amusing to me that the alt-right knows they're so hated that they pick up memes in order to make people hate those memes. Like, they've deliberately made that autistic girl from Sesame Street into their "hero" to try and get her labeled a hate symbol. xD
