Last week, someone here made a post insinuating that post-gay marriage legalization, the fight for gay rights was frivolous. Obviously, that is false, but I just saw a really good vid that lays out what civil protections gay people still lack. Check it out if you have time.

* Commitment to love and legal recognition as a relationship is not a right for all

One of these things is fucking stupid.

There aren't any. It's just religious people thinking they're more important than others.

IMO, your religious beliefs don't give you the right to push people down. Your religious freedom should never be put ahead of others, and is the LEAST important right.

A lot of heterosexual couples don't have kids, by choice or otherwise. So your post isn't relevant.

You can't use the Bible to prove the Bible. And your bible certainly doesn't prove your god even exists anymore than the old Greek gods like Zeus or the old Roman gods like Jupiter exist.

I honestly think that marriage is one of the biggest scams that the government runs. I mean if we are truly having separation of church and state, then the government should have nothing to do with marriage. Marriage licenses should be illegal and everyone who issues them should be sent to prison.

Marriage predates civilization so no it's not a government scam. Plus it protects both spouses in case one dies.

Legal reasons now. If your spouse died, it ensures you are protected and get next-of-kin rights to their possessions. Also, tax breaks for married couples.

Also the Supreme Court doesn't "know better" than anyone. They're just a bunch of politicians, just like the rest of the government. Just because they took the liberal side doesn't mean that they're "right" in doing so.

Really? Because I literally just quoted the experts.

While there are some psychological reasons why companies will split their stock, it doesn't change any of the business fundamentals. In the end, whether you have two $50 bills or one $100 bill, you have the same amount in the bank.

The reasoning would be that marriage isn't about love, that is a modern sentiment. Marriage has always been about having children, and I actually agree that people who don't have kids shouldn't get tax breaks, they don't need the extra money in the same way parents do. Homosexuals unless they adopt of have some kind of surrogate arrangement shouldn't derive a tax benefit from being in a relationship. It's an over site in the law essentially an assumption that marriage = children.

As far as having your marriage recognized by the state I really don't see why anybody would want that, it's just more draconian legislation sticking there nose into people's business. If anything the state has damaged relationships with its involvement in marriage. The state used to have some incentive in keeping families together but now it seems like a racket for lawyers.
