It's seldom the case, unless we're talk about an in-depth roguelike/roguelite (e.g. enter the gungeon or risk of rain).

For example people seem to think skyrim or morrowind are fun for this reason even though it's the same boring gameplay played over and over and over again.

Replayability? All I ever hear is how length=quality. If people actually cared about replayability, Platinum's games might actually sell.

If the game is so linear there's no appeal to replaying it, it's obviously garbage.

Most games now are made on this one shot philosophy.

Fun=good. Longer-lasting fun=longer-lasting good. Longer-lasting fun can be achieved by making a highly-replayable game, or by making a very long game, and between those two options, replayability is usually the easier option for developers to pull off.

I know, right? Also, what's up with these 'graphics'. There are plenty of good games with only 16 bit graphics! So clearly they don't impact how good a game is. Also these 'powerful consoles and computers' are clearly a joke when good games don't need such power. Also these 'controllers' are stupid as well. Why can't we use a possum to make good controllers? Just wrestle a live one into submission and plug its tail in for the ultimate gaming experience!

Sound stupid? Good. Because it is. Similar to how stupid you'd have to be to not realize why having a game be good enough to make people want to play through a multitude of times isn't a good thing.

How is that a neckbeard thing? What's the point of spending money on a piece of media that you'll only use once and never again? Are you saying you've never played/read/watched a favorite game, book, or movie more then once?

I'd much rather a shorter game that encourages multiple playthroughs for any number of reasons (story, character builds, gameplay routes, optional content, etc) than a massive, overly-bloated game that offers the exact same combat/exploration/story experience throughout with no real changes.

It's the reason why I replayed SotN and Mass Effect 1 nearly a dozen times and still replay them every year, whereas something like Persona 5 was absolutely a one-and-done.

Neckbeards have poor taste in gaming-- kind of reflects their low standards in life too. Roguelite games, when done right, are very fun because they offer gameplay depth which pairs well with replayability to SOME EXTENT. It's seldom the same boring gameplay over and over, like it is with games that cheapskate gamers go nuts for.

I don't buy those types of games either (e.g. beyond two souls). Games that have good multiplayer usually justify the purchase, even if their campaigns are small (e.g. The Last of Us).

I have friends, but none of them are gamers-- it's a very lonely niche habit in terms of the circles that I interact with, hence the gaming forums. Discussing games is thankfully the main commonality I share with the people here.

I'm guessing you stunk at the game and gave up. EtG is harder than Isaac, but much more fun once you get into it.

This isn't true at all. There are plenty of games that I've enjoyed but only played through once or twice. But it's more like these games like The Witcher 3 and the like-- sure there's technically a lot of gameplay you could go through, but it's the same boring crap over and over.
