Still seems pretty miserable.

Eggs, chicken, veggies, fish, fruit, granola, bread, pasta, and salad seem pretty miserable? Dude, you need to readjust your beliefs.

joe40001 posted...
Granola is your "big dessert"? How is that not tame and bland as fuck?

Who said anything about "big dessert?" You shouldn't be eating a big dessert. Sugar is probably 50% or more of what's making you fat. Cut it out.

joe40001 posted...
That's like saying "I'm so kinky, one time I even fantasized about TWO women"

I'm not sure why this applies. You asked for normalcy. I provided what I eat on an average day, which I think is pretty normal.

joe40001 posted...
It's the blandest most tame thing that could ever be considered "kinky" and granola is the blandes fucking thing that could ever be considered "dessert"

Where are you getting kinky? And why is it referenced with food? Also, I listed more than granola. Dark chocolate is good. Fruit is good. Those are two options that are okay to eat daily if you want something sweet.

joe40001 posted...
That's why it seems miserable. Do any of the foods you mentioned seem like they could be in the same sentence with the word "fun"?

You need to grow up. Food is fuel. You can have fun with food every once in a while if you eat properly. Sounds like you just overindulge.

So you say "how do you get miserable" and you end on:

Food being fun? Fuck you, grow up.

That's kinda what I mean. Seems pretty miserable.

Just because something is not perfectly fun doesn't mean it's automatically miserable. It's a responsibility to yourself to eat right. Learning that those responsibilities are not always fun is part of growing up.

I find people who think of "growing up" and "responsibility" in this way are needlessly stuffy and unhappy.

The way you talk about it, doesn't sound like you are happy about it, but that you are resigned to it. Being resigned to things you are not happy about is "miserable".

I'll be fair: I've been petty and grumpy here, and I do think your heart has been in the right place and looking to help, but I think you and I don't have compatible ways of thinking about this such that you could be much help to me.

What you talk about and how you talk about it don't seem happy.

The easiest thing to do is to just become a fan of salad. And not just the tiny side salads you get with a meal, but one of those big Zaxby's sized salads that literally is the meal. The more types of vegetables are in the salad, the more satisfying it will be. As long as you're not drenching it in 2,000 calories worth of dressing, eating vegetables generally has a negative caloric effect, which makes calorie counting irrelevant. Fruit is also great for breakfast because of the natural sugar, but normally I just eat cereal. For dinner though, I am not the best person to ask for "fun" or "tasty" dishes as I simply just boil frozen vegetables because I'm too lazy to learn how to make anything else. There's tons of recipes online though.

I don't really think about dinner too much, I just eat it so I can stop being hungry and go back to what I was doing. It's passable, but not special. I used to experiment with a lot of different recipes a couple years back, like a few salmon dishes, sorbets, and some other names I don't remember. But then I lost all the recipes with my last phone so I just said fuck it. If dinner is really important to you, then you should know how to cook already.

Quite the opposite. You know what feels good? Taking care of the shit you have to take care of and then having fun without worrying about the shit you should have taken care of. Work hard - Party hard.

joe40001 posted...

The way you talk about it, doesn't sound like you are happy about it, but that you are resigned to it. Being resigned to things you are not happy about is "miserable".

Also, the opposite. Every sunday I eat whatever bad food I want to eat and I always regret it. Not because I think it will make me fat or make my cholesterol bad, but because it makes my body literally feel like garbage. Upset stomach, groggy, etc. Eating right gives you energy, can help with depression, and you have less worry about health problems.

joe40001 posted...

Thank you for at least being reasonable. I'll also do the same. The bottom line is that eating healthy is not easy and it requires a lifestyle change. You have to depend on discipline to do it and eventually, you do gain the happiness from it. I will still say that eating right is a responsibility and if you're looking for it to be fun 100% of the time, you're going to be disappointed. It's like working at your job. It has to be done whether it's fun or not.

joe40001 posted...
What you talk about and how you talk about it don't seem happy.

I don't mean to give that impression because that is not the case at all. I think I might be the happiest I've ever been in my life and part of that is due to the fact that I've been doing what I should be doing that benefits me and my wife. EX: eating right, exercising, furthering my career

Those things practically give birth to even greater things that are amazing. Because I furthered my career, I can enjoy nice vacations and my wife doesn't have to work. Because I exercise, my mood and body are healthier and I don't have to worry about that later. etc.

In my experience, the things you say you do that make you happier in the long run, for me have always been an unrewarding slog. By and large I have not been rewarded for taking "positive steps" that people insist will be rewarding. People will say it is because I eventually go back to my old ways, which is true, but why would I do something unrewarding indefinitely if I find it unpleasant? You don't know how frustrating it is to put in 100 work hours into something and have people tell you that it failed because you didn't try hard enough. Wasn't enough, wasn't even close to enough.

That's why I'm doing this 1 week water fast.
1. People say it requires too much willpower and so if I succeed I can finally shut up the idea that I lack willpower
2. A week is a long enough time to have some response to something, people can't say after a week "well you've got to give it more time before you can expect ANY results"
3. I literally cannot go any lower on caloric intake so by god I better fucking burn some weight.

In my mind it won't change shit though. It will be misery for the sake of misery which is what I picture when I read your daily meals.

I still appreciate your patience and what you said and will try to keep it in mind.

How would the young you feel about a diet that consisted of things like "lentils, rice, tofu, and greek yogurt"? Doesn't that sound like what you'd write a character in a movie eat if you wanted to show the character was bland and un-fun?

In regards to the size of my meals, young me would probably wish he had eaten better when he was young so he wouldn't have been chubby.

In regards to the actual food, there's not much difference in what I'm eating now and when I was growing up. Always ate rice and yogurt. Always ate beans and lentils. I mean, the only difference is young me ate more candy and snacks, but as I've gotten older eating junk food just leaves me feeling bad the next day

Early on I wanted general tips. I tried to find out what was needed to be done to lose weight. With time I got that carbs were a major factor and that exercise was too, I learned that water wasn't that bad but could have a major difference, I learned that bodybuilding type exercise isn't really what exercise is and that it's more like jogging on a treadmill and that also it can actually make you feel better, with time I learned that people saying that weren't full of total shit. I learned the food pyramid is basically bullshit and that fruit juice isn't great for you just because it contains fruit, I learned that fruit itself has a lot of sugar and things like that. I learned the value of cardio. I learned calories were very important and fat itself not as much.

No, I still don't get how lentils, rice, and greek yogurt don't sound depressing as fuck though,

Not necessarily that. I mean fasting isn't always bad as long as you're smart about how you do it and don't do it for too long. It's just that tc is just going to go back to his shitty diet and just end up gaining the weight back and learn nothing

How can you sincerely say all of those assumptions as fact? You even know what I will learn before I even learn it? come on

The 3 reasons you posted for fasting don't show that you plan to start better eating habits

Always ate beans and lentils

Have you made lentil tacos before? It is so damn good. We make them like they would be beef tacos.

Na I haven't. With the right seasoning I can see it being good as tacos though.

No, I still don't get how lentils, rice, and greek yogurt don't sound depressing as fuck though,

What's your average day of of meals look like?

You have my permission to make up whatever you think my average meals look like and then make fun of it or whatever accordingly. I can't imagine a scenario where the specifics will help anything at all. If you have such a scenario let me know.
