View Results 16 y/o Davis Cripe has died after his heart fell out of rhythm at Spring Hill High School in Chapin, South Carolina after drinking too much caffeine!! He drank a large MOUNTAIN DEW, a McDonalds Latte AND an Energy Drink in just TWO HOURS prior to his death.... He had no pre-existing heart condition as he was otherwise healthy. His heartbroken father spoke about Davis and said "Davis was a great kid and being his parent was a great honour to Heidi and me. I stand before you as a heartbroken father and hope that something good can come from this. Parents, please talk to your kids about the dangers of these energy drinks. And teenagers and students, please stop buying them. There's no reason to consume them they can be very dangerous" Coroner Watts agreed and said high consumption of caffeine products can be dangerous as it may not be a danger to everyone but that it could have deadly effects on some people and its best to only drink in small amounts. The daily recommended limit for a healthy adult is 400mg a day of caffeine which is equal to 4 cups of coffee or 10 cans of soda. Based on what Davis consumed, he had about 434mg... And when I found out that juice unless it's heavy on pulp is basically sugar-water and about as unhealthy as coca cola, I switched to mostly just drinking water, unless I'm feeling really fancy (when I'm feeling fancy...Thai Ice Tea, Shirley Temple, etc). I mean, don't get me wrong, if I was thirsty and someone handed me a Mountain Dew, I'd drink it. My tastes have changed now that I'm old, but I imagine Mountain Dew would probably still taste fine. Lots of soda and kool-aid in child/teen years, but then a conscious choice to switch to predominately water. Later on, tea would be added as a drink of choice.
