I was very impressed by 2008's performance since the year didn't appear to be as strong today than it was back in 2009 where the year had 3 games that were all top 30 on this site (Brawl, Fallout 3, MGS4). Since then, Brawl and MGS4 have seen their strength fall off a cliff while Fallout 3 remains steady. The drop off in strength for Brawl and MGS4 was partially offset by the rise of Persona 4 (and the series in general), but it does not fully make up for the drop off in strength for Brawl and MGS4.

2000 > 1990 felt like a safe pick when I did my bracket because 2000 has more diversity than 1990, despite 1990 having the strongest anchor between the 2 matches. I even took 2000 > 1996 later in my bracket on the strength of 2000's diversity, since 1996 has 2 Marios while 2000 has FFIX, Majora's Mask, and Pokemon GSC.

I still want to be hopeful about depth not mattering much if you're up against one strong individual games like Ocarina, RBY, LttP, CT, the 3 Mario games.

I'll admit the last 5 years of video games haven't been that great, but that was a time when the video game industry was in the process of transitioning from the last generation of systems to the current generation, so some hangover was to be expected as developers were working on their GOAT worthy games for the current generation systems.

Listened to the episode while I was working today. Sorry I haven't been doing my customary running commentary, but I'm in my car for 5-6 hours a day and a nice, long podcast like this helps me get through the day. Everyone (except Ngamer) was much better about not confusing "games" with "years" this time around!

I completely agree with yo's opinion on BotW. Around 8 years ago I started to lose interest in modern gaming, but BotW has rekindled that fire inside of me. Like yo, I've cared more about this game than any game I've played in years. Easily in my top 5 of all time. Because of BotW, I feel like I can consider myself a gamer again. Will finish up all the sidequests once my finals are done with.

Really good listen to while at work, agree mostly with the depth being a much better factor then the strong anchor, 2001 at this point barring a crazy performance from 1995 in the second round is easily the favorite at this point, much to the sadness of my bracket, which side note, in the first episode of the show, was already doubting 1997, and thanks to Ngamers words, I tipped into picking 1996 over 1997, while that pick is not as dead as 1995 over 2001, especially now with the picture format before I could change some picks in my bracket, I still think 1997 could lose, but now I feel like I picked the wrong upset, I think 2000 could do it over 1997 if it can get past 1996, but 2000 if it doesn't get all of it's representation is not a sure thing to get past 1996 with how it looks right now, if 2000 doesn't get G/S/C and D2 on top in the next match, it could end up losing to 1996 as it's percentage it put was better then I was expecting from 1996.

Another thing I wanted to bring up for discussion and it pains me even more, but there is quite a chance that what CT put on FFX could be overrated in the last games contest due to the support from Nick last contest with his facebook group, while I still believe that even with that taken out of the numbers, I would never pick CT to lose against FFX or melee in a 1V1 without any sort of rally, the fact that it's percentage could be inflated by a few points in that match could easily mean that it has even less breathing room to work with then what I was expecting in the first place, which unless CT gets that support again from said facebook group, could even be more vunlerable then what I was giving credit for.

Feel like my bracket is as dead as Ngamers is with all that considered.

True true, the facebook group wasn't enough to compete with the insane rallies of Melee or Undertale but it still might have been enough to beat up on a game that couldn't defend itself like FFX and could be a little overrated as a result.

We'll see what Nick has to say about this accusation.

ZELDA, whoo yeah go Link go (Skyward Sword tiny and blending in so no one will notice), the Game of the Decade just below it, big bright Dark Souls right underneath and then a flashy eye-catching Scorpion and Sub-Zero for no reason whatsoever. (yeah yeah I know they had the MK remake but is that really in anyone's top ten from that year?)

I think this is the ultimate test of Smart Voters, if 2006 still manages to somehow turn this into a blowout like everything else I'll be very, very impressed with our tiny little voting block.

Looking at the updates on this match, it looks like the board vote lasted for 10 minutes before 2006 dropped off hard. After those first 10 minutes is when we start getting the voters who are more likely to vote based on the picture.
