One potential game changer from 2005 (unfortunately missing from its game list) that I meant to bring up but forgot: Dragon Quest VIII. If that were listed I might have had to change my stance on its trajectory!

And yea this contest is a total crapshoot for picking in the oracle, less so for brackets but I know my oracle score is in the crapper right now.

I'm trying to find some kind of formula for determining what percentage a year will get but it's been hard to do, I think some games below a certain strength end up not contributing to the year's strength at all. Trying to look more into it.

I agree with Ngamer, we have less voters know but they're all more likely to base their votes on the quality of the games they know from that year and not vote solely based on the pic.

I think it's really funny how Chrono Trigger is the strongest game on the website without rallies but it has almost no rally potential.

With regards to Ngamer's concerns about us not being welcoming, I feel like as a whole Board 8 is a lot more welcoming than the rest of GameFAQs, but yea being a little nicer doesn't hurt anyone

For 95, I honestly expected it to break 90. After seeing 2001 break 80 on 2014, I can see 95 and 01 being a close match at least. I feel like 01 is stronger at the moment but we'll see.

I had 87 winning with around 60%, I'm always afraid to pick the huge blowout percentages haha. But in hindsight it absolutely makes sense for 87 to win that hard. It's Mario 1 versus Zelda 1 as well as Metroid, Mega Man, and Castlevania. Those are 4 core NES franchises versus 1. It doesn't matter that the console was released in 85, since 87 is definitely a better year for the NES.

I was actually a little surprised 08 beat 09 that hard, but then again there isn't any single super strong game that year. The strongest is what, Uncharted 2? That doesn't stand a chance against, Brawl, or Fallout 3, or Metal Gear Solid 4 despite MGS4 being weaker than in previous years. I think even GTA IV could beat Uncharted 2

I can see some mild SFF happening in matches that are close to each other in years, but 09 is also a very weak year for Nintendo which I think has a stronger impact behind the blowout. If you're a Nintendo fan there's not much reason to pick 09 over 08.

I agree with Yo. It's not the games that carried 87 against 85, it's the franchises. 87 gave us four franchises that have amazing games in them.

The 90 and 2000 match pics are really biased towards 90, but based on what we've seen so far I really don't think the pics matter that much. Our voters are informed, they know 90 only really has Mario 3 whereas 2000 has Majora, FF9, Pokemon GSC, Diablo II, Perfect Dark, just so many great games. Probably the deepest year in the whole contest (besides 98 of course)

2000 definitely beats 96. Outside of Mario 64, 96 doesn't really have enough strong games to challenge Majora, Pokemon, or FF9

94 will definitely beat 2004. Super Metroid has proven itself to be legit, FF6 is still one of the strongest games on the site. 04 doesn't really have much that can stand up against that. Not even sure if MGS3 beats Super Metroid 1v1

91 I feel can beat 94, it could be close though. Mario World, FFII, Sonic, and Street Fighter is a great group of games to represent the SNES. I'd actually argue 94 has less depth, I see a huge drop off after Super Metroid and FF6.

I think 06 beats 11. I really don't have faith in the newer years to be very strong, even though 11 has some great games like Skyrim, Portal 2, Dark Souls, and Arkham City. I think nostalgia wins here. I don't think Skyward Sword can help 11 that much, if it was a stronger Zelda then I might have picked 11.

One thing with regard to 03 vs. 13, I know Yo was saying he doesn't think 13 has any game that can definitively beat Kotor, but GTA V actually ended up being stronger in the x-stats thatn KotOR, GTA winning with 52.9. Still, 03 should win easily.

I picked 05 over 03 but I'm a little worried, because of Wind Waker. I'll have to see how they perform in their round 1 matches.

I completely agree with yo's opinion on BotW. Around 8 years ago I started to lose interest in modern gaming, but BotW has rekindled that fire inside of me. Like yo, I've cared more about this game than any game I've played in years. Easily in my top 5 of all time. Because of BotW, I feel like I can consider myself a gamer again. Will finish up all the sidequests once my finals are done with.

1986 is definitely the weakest year that didn't participate in the Vote-In polls. I suspect 1986 could have lost to 1983, which is why I wish we could have gotten 1983/1986 in the Wildcard Round.
