Chrono Trigger - how (and when) did you FIRST play it?

This is the game of the hour. Can we talk about it too much?

NO.

Got hyped as hell for this game reading about it in Nintendo Power, begged my dad to get it the day it came out. He did and I played the crap out of it over the next four months. I've gotten every rerelease since, including the crappy Playstation one.

I still have the original cartridge.

This was roughly my case also, my Dad went out of his way to get games I was really hyped for.

Earthbound on release
Mario 3 on release (We drove around for hours trying to find a toy store that had it in stock.)
Chrono Trigger on release
Secret of Mana on release

Final Fantasy III(VI) had to wait a bit but I got it for Christmas shortly after it came out.

I actually played Chrono Trigger because of its contest shenanigans.

I got to say, not a whole lot of games would have lived up to that kind of hype, but it sure did.

I rented it on Blockbuster's $2 Tuesday and the cashier told me I was renting a gold mine.

I got to the Golem Twins before I had to return the rental and I tried to rent it the next week but all their copies were rented out. :(

Used to rent it a lot from Blockbuster in the spring of 98 and it quickly became my favorite game. Eventually Blockbuster stopped carrying it, and I was disappointing and wanted to play it again. Sort of odd looking back since I beat it and I've never really been huge on replaying games. Anyway, I never played the SNES version again due to it being rare/expensive, and I eventually got it three years later on the PS1.

On a computer in the early 2000s... I was really into DBZ at the time and on a bunch the sites I was reading about the DBZ SNES games on, they'd list Chrono Trigger as something "related" because of Toriyama's work on the art. Such a weird way to discover the game, but so glad it happened. Been my favourite of all-time since then and not much else comes close.
