You meet an extremely attractive second cousin for the first time. She comes on to you. What happens next?

The Situation
You've never met this second cousin before. You have no childhood memories or real family bond with her, but you both know that you are, indeed, second cousins. She's around your age, gorgeous, and very cool, and you hit it off really well. Then she starts to actual come on to you and WHAT

I asked about this same thing a few years ago and I'm pretty sure over 60% of the board said hell nah to anything physical, which I found a little surprising.

I had a hot fourth cousin come on to me when we were teenagers. We pretty much just flirted for the whole summer and creeped the shit out of the family and that was it.

fourth cousin??

I might be rusty on my geneology, but that seems almost impossible to ascertain unless you got one of those old ass bloodlines that keeps track of their family trees super well.

And yes, this situation is inspired by the time I met a hot second cousin who was a couple years older than me. My thoughts on this entire debate did a 180 as I immediately thought "yeah I'd obliterate."

I don't even think it's a huge deal for 1st cousins. You didn't grow up together and the risk of defects is way lower than with immediate family (and if you're just looking for a one-time thing, completely irrelevant).

okay maybe i clicked yes because i lacked an exact concept of what a second cousin was, because i have never met a second cousin

but i just googled it and it's your grandparent's grandchild. that's not quite far enough away for me i think

to answer the eventual reduction of the argument, i think my line in the sand would be great-grandparent's great-grandchild, so third cousin. but it's really about the social stigma of it all so the answer is a VERY firm "it depends"

A long ass time ago I did a topic series which asked B8 users various questions by giving them a type of "job" and how much money would it take for them to do it. This was one of them... although I forget how I stumbled upon this technically a second cousin does not count as incest and the "free" rate was overwhelming.

Although, while it's pretty much a 100% certainty that someone in the world has married a blood sibling that was adopted by a different family and second cousins just fucking is even "more" likely than that. I do think that knowingly doing it depends on like how hot they actually are, the aftermath that follows, etc. Most issues with it actually stem from the offspring, so if that's taken out of the equation it simply becomes, how do we deal with kinds being related later?

Story recently came out that fraternal twins married and only found out because they were having issues conceiving.

I also found out at 25 that my father is actually my step father, which kind of made me reevaluate the cousin situation since we weren't close anyway. I don't think I ever came to a real conclusion, but it's weird.

wow i'm a dumb shit. blame being a little drunk when i read that

i think it matters when you meet them and how old you are. if you're a fully formed adult (let's be conservative and say 25) and have never met or heard of them before, who cares.

the negatives are 1) social stigma and 2) birth defects if you want to have kids. I guess 3) ruining the existing family dynamic. if you don't plan on having kids, #2 isn't an issue. If you have never met or heard of them before, #3 isn't an issue

Depends on how much you care about #1, whether people will find out, etc etc

The chance for birth defects is only about 2% higher for first cousins' children, IIRC. Second cousins are basically genetically unrelated in this regard.

Genetically speaking, no. Your second cousin is only slightly less genetically different from you than a random stranger.

As such, there's technically nothing biologically wrong with the situation.

That being said, I still wouldn't do it because, A: I'm gay, and B: even if it was a male second cousin, I have a strong Westermarck effect so I wouldn't be able to enjoy it anyways.

Not to mention the potential scandal would be a turn off itself.

Incest was always a fun topic in the population genetics courses I took because it always led to the professors mentioning how from a mathematical perspective, first cousin offspring aren't even that bad, but it is just kind of weird.

Also the Community episode on the subject is incredible.

I'm not even worried about genetic or potential birth defects or whatever, the social stigma is the main turnoff. And it's not even "what other people would think." I would know, and that would definitely be enough.

Now in a hypothetical situation where I meet this girl in a bar and neither of us have any idea? I would still end it immediately after we figured it out and probably never talk to her again.
