Why is playing Pokemon shameful. This poll sucks because it's perpetuating that belief.

I blame my controller all the time because it's true. I literally got screwed in Mario Golf today because my A double tapped today so I drove the ball like 8 feet. I ended up with a double bogey and all my friends f***ing beat me because of it.

I wonder what'd happen if you went to a college campus, and tried to find someone who didn't: A) still play Pokemon, or B) have particularly fond memories of it.

I imagine that'd be awfully difficult, really.

I'm sure there are definitely some like that, yeah. Especially back in the Gen III era, when playing Pokemon was considered to be a Scarlet Letter of sorts.

In recent years, though, it seems like it's become fashionable again, and almost everyone I've come across accepts it. I think HeartGold/SoulSilver was the turning point; I know that was what got me interested in the series again, as well as many of my friends.

haha, hell man, I agree with you on a lot of things but RBY is objectively the worst generation of Pokemon.
RSE is the only legitimately bad generation of Pokemon. There's a few gems in there, but not many. I ended up beating the E4 with four pokemon simply because I didn't find anything else I could justify training by then.

I actually really love Emerald, and got back into the franchise with it after skipping Crystal (yeah, Bosco's "Scarlet Letter" is a thing I dived straight into) but everything I've seen of Ruby and Sapphire tells me they were the absolute lowest point.

I stopped liking Pokemon during Gen III too. Not really because of the backlash, though: more than anything, I just didn't like Ruby, and FireRed was even worse. After replaying it in '10, I found that Ruby was a lot better than I originally gave it credit for... but I still think FRLG is a shoddy-ass remake. >_>

It is weird, though, that so many people turned on Pokemon during that time period. It was starting to happen around Crystal's release, and it really caught fire after RS. I guess it was probably because Wind Waker really opened the floodgates for all the "LOL KIDDYTENDO" talk, but I'm not totally sure.

I think it was somewhat shameful to play Pokemon during the stretch of time from Ruby/Sapphire to Diamond/Pearl. Once Platinum came out, though, Pokemon went back from cash cow to generally good game, and playing Pokemon was no more shameful than playing any other game.

He's right though. It had a ton of glitches and quirks, 1/3 of the Pokedex was either Normal, Water, or Poison, Psychics were broken, only weak to Bug, which had 2 real attacks that maybe 2 or 3 Pokemon could ever learn, no Special split.

You can't actually defend this mess with anything other than nostalgia. (I mean, yes, it was still a fun game, but every generation has improved upon the last.)

I guess the only shameful thing is if you're surronded by people that don't like it. Which is far from a common experience, but it's tough to believe otherwise sometimes.

Either way, mine would probably be the lying about beating a game. After all, I know of situations that it's happened (of course, that lying comes from me not being able to beat the final boss for an unknown reason and is only Zelda games) but I was close enough to say I've beaten it.
