Yep. It was a few years ago (2006) on a fairly large Advance Wars fansite I used to visit. It just goes to show that every fandom has psychopaths!

Thouh not helping matters is the fact that the only two people I know who really love MLP are a bit... odd. But that's anecdotal evidence so there. There are plenty of casual fans who just appreciate it normally.

As far as I know, everyone in the B8 MLP discussion thread is pretty sane, so that has to count for something.

Anyway I pretty much agree with the_rowan as far as the actual fandom goes. That's pretty much the prevailing attitude I've gotten from most people involved in it.

I mean, someone hunted down and murdered somebody over an internet argument about Advance Wars, but you don't see people villifying that fandom over that event.

Likewise, you don't see Halo fans getting demonized just because of Daniel Petric. (But considering the year Petric happened (2007), COD ursurping Halo during that exact same year might have helped though!)

Every time I hang out with my best friend and his cousin they won't f***ing shut up about MLP. Seriously it's like the same few things, continuously recycled. Thankfully he doesn't jam it down my throat since I'd probably snap his neck, but now it's just everything that he posts about on Facebook.

MLP fans literally and sincerely consider mlp a part of their life they can't live without. And don't try and say " well I've met a few fans who consider it blah blah " cause they don't and any who do are in the minority.

Late reply but I'm obviously not talking about casual fans like people here on B8.

I'm talking about people like Adam or whatever his name is in the documentary who are actually emotionally attached to the show. I feel like that Adam guy was about to burst out crying when he was talking about it. And from the looks of every socially awkward person in that pony con, I'd say there's a good amount of them out there.

I've never seen a homestuck fan like that. Maybe there's one or two out there. But MLP has bred dozens of these people.

Parts of Homestuck are like that for me, actually.

Not something I'd normally tell people, but it did help me out of some nasty parts in my life and I'm grateful for that. <_<

....you really, really shouldn't base a 25 minute 'documentary' on this that specifically is highlighting people crazy deep in the fandom.

that's like trying to point out those furries who got on TV dressed and acting like they're cat-people represent the whole fandom.

or those people who send death threats to manga writers represent all the fans of that particular manga.


going to a specifically designed con is a pretty good spot to find the crazies. it's just also gonna find an overwhelming number that... aren't.

I think "con" is the more telling factor than "MLP" in that situation. Cons attract a larger percentage of the weirdos than anything else.

I agree with everything that's been said so far in this topic; MLP's fanbase is an irreconcilable plague upon the otherwise pristine, perfect, preeminent pony performance. Their tasteless, dirty and uneducated perspective has been tolerated for too long. We all already accept the sheer impossibility that they like works of high quality, why the hell aren't we rounding them up and putting them out of their miserable existence? How much more Chinese sweatshop labor on merchandise, how many more African children neglected, how much more valuable airtime wasted before we decide that enough is enough?

I am speaking of course, about the vulgar menace little girls and the shows produced to their taste pose to modern American civilization. We acknowledge that their shows are vile, jejune and sophomoric trash devoid of any aesthetic value, why aren't we doing anything about it?

Being a fan of the show myself, I feel that this show should've stayed a guilty pleasure and the fanbase should never have been this huge and expressive about liking a girls cartoon. I can see why they're hated as well with some of the filth I've accidentally seen. To quote someone:

"To be fair, it's one thing if you take a supposedly "girly" cartoon and make it for all audiences and another thing when you take a franchise known for being "too girly" and make it entertaining. There's going to be more skeptics with the latter than the former. I do believe Faust succeeded in her goal, but there's been several successful "girly" shows before Friendship is Magic. It's mostly the "My Little Pony" brand that catches people off guard. Less that it's girly."
