Or should I play some of Normal solo before queuing up with people?
Whatever you want. I definitely enjoyed playing with random people on my friends list when I saw they were on the same quest as me, but avoid public games.
Or if you're one of those "durr single player game" people then avoid it all.

Still can't even touch Inferno Act II. If you finish Act I thinking you're gonna be able to do s*** in Act II, then you're in for a wakeup call. You won't progress for a long time.

Did you post your tag? I want more people who are relatively on my gear level so I can check them out.
I was at 38k health, 13k dps before I nerfed myself. Now I'm at 35k health, slightly under 10k dps, 516 physical res, and 360ish elemental res. Not sure it was worth it - I still can't get 2 minutes into Act II. I could, but that would involve way too much effort on my part. There just has to be an easier way.
And by I could, I mean I really don't think I could. Just wishful thinking.

I was 60 yesterday. I'm just soloing with that character, so I'm not putting my tag out in public. Inferno was the first time I felt forced to buy something from AH.
Literally doubled my DPS for 10k, which basically made act 1 inferno quite managable.
Also, by challenging my assumptions, I have currently arrived at a fairly unrefined but workable run-and-gun build.
Smoke screen, marked for death (hatred proc), hatred gen pet, preparation (discipline over time), tentacle elemental arrow, vault. Sharpshooter, archery (Crossbow), tactical advantage.
After many attempts to get a run and gun build working, I cut my hate gen skill for the pet and everything fell into place. Basically, there's a lot of synergy with running. Similar to before, some sort of chakram might be better but they're awkward as **** to use.
Farming Act I Inferno has been alright, I can survive good enough there. I wouldn't resort to Hell, though. The drops aren't near as good from what I've noticed.

I dumped all of my dps gear for resistance gear in hopes that I could survive Act II decently, but I'm still failing. How are you progressing through Inferno, Chris? It's going to be a long, tough, grind finishing it off.

Fighting Diablo for the first time without really knowing what he can do with gear I wasn't sure was good and that I couldn't upgrade because no AH, and on Hardcore!?
I almost died in the Realm of Terror but in the end I won, Normal hardcore bested woohoo!
It covers things like whether or not you should use a 2H or a 1H + Offhand.
Yeah, on lower difficulties, 2Hand works really well because you can just sit there and spam high-AP skills at a slower rate, and since AP regenerates at a constant rate, you get higher DPS. In Normal and Nightmare right now, AP is definitely my DPS bottleneck. That's why my build focuses on reducing AP cost, so I can spam more. In this case, a 2Hand works the best. But I can imagine in Hell/Inferno, you can't just sit there and blow everything up, even with Diamond Skin, so AP management won't be your biggest issue.

Right I'm starting to feel like teleport and Hydra are going to be a necessary party of a high end Wizard's kit.
But I'm not sure if which Hydra to go with and if I want to drop a passive spot to enhance the hydra. (Give it a chance to stun w/ electricity, slow with arcane, or increased DPS with fire).
I basically got through Nightmare using Disitintgrate + Decreased AP Use on Lightning Shield + Decreased AP Use on Diamond Skin, but I don't think that's going to fly anymore.
Although I did fun stuff vs Diablo.
Arcane Hydra (+ Slow on Arcane damage passive) on right click. Frost Beam (with reduced cost)
My DPS was very slow since it relied on frost beam for most of it, but diablo was incredibly easy to kite to death on nightmare. But using the passive that gives you 20 max AP and 2 AP/second means that you can afford to make frost beam your Left click without ever running dry effectively.
But yeah he would run up to me and get slowed by the arcane hydra and beam and chill aura. Or he would get near me and get pushback/stunned. Or he would get closer to me and I could TP away. Or he would actually hit me and usually get frozen.
Also I learned that you can reflect Diablo's scream back with the pushback. I wasn't sure it was a projectile ^_^
But I'm definitely going to be doing a lot more tinkering during my Hell runs to figure out what I think is actually most practical/best.
You can only have 1 Hydra out at a time, so there's no reason to put it on RMB unless you have no other major active skills. And I guess using a passive to boost it would work well, but I just use Arcane Hydra for the AOE and it is godlike. I guess Fire + damage boost passive would be great too.
But yeah I'm thinking Wave of Force will be a major skill for higher difficulties. It is good both offensively and defensively, but it doesn't really add anything to my build right now so I'm not using it.
Venom Hydra is easily the best of the first 5 for raw damage. The pools it leaves behind really add up. If you're using the arcane mastery though arcane hydra is probably better overall.
