It wasn't. Tyrion and Bronn were making plans to arrange for Joffrey to lose his virginity, but I don't think it went anywhere.
Oh, it was from Tyrion? ...Oh, I guess that makes sense. It just said "nephew". Woops.

Jaime has his hands tied up at the moment if you recall

More demonic baby s***? Ugh. I didn't like it the first time with Dany, and it's even stupider now. I'm not seeing any redeeming qualities in Melisandre so far. That reminds me; it really bothered me in the second(?) episode when Melisandre convinced Stannis to have sex with her. Here we have a guy that's supposed to be pretty much the most honorable man in the seven kingdoms, and THE SECOND Melisandre mentions the possibility of a son he's just like, "okay, guess I don't have a choice then!" Not believable at all.

Tyrion was amazing as usual; between putting Joffrey and Ser Meryn in their place and completely shutting down Lancel (3rd episode in a row he's done that to someone!), he's pretty much solidified his position as my favorite living character (well okay he was probably there anyway beforehand). Speaking of Lannisters, I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Tywin now that he's shown up!

Dany's storyline is showing promise now; I'm much more interested in learning about these Thirteen than seeing nomads travel the wilderness. Dany herself still isn't really interesting me though.

Stannis isn't supposed to be all about honor. That's Ned Stark. Stannis is all about justice and order. Not having a son hurts his claim, and means that if he does win, when he dies there will be a potentially disasterous succession crisis. (That said, I agree that the scene was not particularly well done and felt too fast)

No, it wasn't. Since it's the actress who is supposed to be playing Jeyne, the current speculation is either that it's Jeyne in disguise or that they've written her out entirely. We shall see.

Also, I find it kind of weird that they still haven't named Melisandre in the show.

I was a little disappointed how they handled Stannis showing up this episode. They just cut to the next scene and it's Renly talking to Stannis, no big deal. In the book it was a cool surprise when Stannis showed up at Storm's End. But we were supposed to expect it in the show because they had been talking about it.

The main reason I liked ACoK more than AGoT was because of the large scale war strategies and the show isn't able to get that across as well.

THIS IS HOW YOU DO AN EPISODE!

Dany and Joffrey: They should have their own show where they get married and just terrorize other human beings for giggles.

Like I wrote in my review for Episode 1, Joffrey's spoiled, entitled upbringing has brought out the sadist in him; not only does he revel in the pain of others, but it gets him off. The opening scene where he's abusing Sansa has nothing to do with her brother or making an example; the guy just generally enjoys the misery of other human beings. I love his character because he plays it with such fervor. Notice how he cowers before Tyrion, the only man strong enough to put him in his place. Like most sadists, his power lies in his abuse of weaker creatures(his mother, Sansa, whores, read: women.)

I thought I couldn't feel any worse for Sansa...I was wrong.

Then there's Dany A.K.A the hottest women on television. Her trials and tribulations have been spare, bordering on sporadic this season, but her plight has been felt nonetheless. Each little glimpse shows more desperation; not for herself, but for the people that she has grown to love. What a long way she has come by the way. I rewatched the first episodes of Season 1 and she was completely alienated and outcast. Now look at her! That threat she threw on that guy was powerful because she meant it and the black guy could tell.

More later! this episode was amazing.

Ned's bones. Remember, Tyrion at the council meeting in episode 2 said that they should send Ned's bones to her in a gesture of good faith, and in this episode Littlefinger was saying how he deserved to be interred in the crypts below Winterfell.

As to where they were going... I'm actually not sure. They changed the setting a lot (probably for both time and budgetary reason) and they don't really explain where they are. I'm hoping it will be more clear next episode.

While they didn't explicitly say where they were going, Davos does say that the bars across the passage weren't there before. I can only assume, then, that it's Storm's End, unless they change where he previously smuggled as well.

The "Ned box" was weird to me. It looked too small to properly fit his body properly (unless they really squished him and chopped him up...) but how would he already be decomposed into just bones? I know they refer to it as his "bones" in both the book and the show but I always figured that was just weird phrasing.

Regarding where Stannis/Davos/Mel are I have a theory but it's pretty spoilery so I will link to my post in the "book spoilers" topic on the TV cable board: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/226-television-cable-and-satellite/62370618/699179098

I thought it was a fairly decent recast. they got a guy that looks enough like him and if he puts a full suit of plate on he'll look plenty bigger. I think the fact that he was wearing generic lannsiter armor instead of full plate was a mistake since it did make him look smaller.

Something I rarely talk about: locations.

Game of Thrones makes every locale feel original and distinct. It's not until I saw the inside of Qarth and longed to see the rest that it hit me. Kings Landing and Harrenhall couldn't be more similar in ideals but farther away in distinction. Each Renly Brother has a camp that feels close enough that they can visit but distinct enough that the brothers personalities shone.

The Wall and things beyond it feel eerie and other worldly. Winterfell feels so isolated. The Iron Island is...well...hard. Everything is cold and bleak to reflect the people.

The guys in control of set Design are just as good as the guys writing the stories.

Thats like saying it's heavy handed that Tyrion is getting the biggest most epic scenes because he's everyone's favorite character...

Of course they are. That's called good television. They're not just making Joffrey look terrible just to do it; it's a development for his character as he quickly becomes grows into the skin he was built for. Think of what they did with Dany and how she grew from timid and meek into warrior goddess of my heart. Joffrey's disregard for the outcome of others and predilection for enjoying others suffering has been shown before.

Remember when Bran fell from the window and Tyrion told him to pay his respects. Joffrey could care less. It's not like he had anything else to do, he just couldn't give a **** about someone else's pain. When Cersei asked him what he would do if he was King and the North rebelled he responded, without hesitation, that he would crush them. The kid has been showin his signs for some time and now it's coming out in full because no one can tell him no.

Regarding the Joffrey scene...

I'll admit, I didn't like it the first time through. And I have no desire to watch it again. That said, the more I think about it, the more it shows.

For all of his tyranny, Joffrey does not have the power to defeat Robb Stark. Much like he felt humiliated after Sansa had seen him assaulted by Arya's direwolf, he is again rendered powerless by his inability to strike back at Robb. In response to this feeling of impotence, he lashes out and exerts his power over the one thing that he can use to threaten Robb: Sansa.

Yet Tyrion takes that away from him, leaving him even more powerless. He has been denied, and what more, he has been denied in a way that everyone in court was able to witness. It is natural that he will look for another outlet. And when Tyrion sends the whores to him, you can see the look on his face, as if he has been given a gift. Tyrion has given him the very tool to exact his revenge. Tyrion humiliated him, so not only is he exerting his kingly power of destruction over those who can not strike back, but he is getting his revenge on Tyrion. He is sending a message. This isn't about sexual sadism (though Joff being a sexual sadist is unsurprising), it's about power.

Further, this scene has important implications for Tyrion. To this point, since arriving in the city Tyrion has dominated everyone. He sent Pycelle to the black cells, he exiled Janos Slynt, he controls the city watch through Bronn, he has disempowered Cersei and made one of her spies his own, he tricked Littlefinger and he has made it clear to Varys that he is not to be trifled with. Tyrion has been on an incredible run because his opponents underestimated him, while Tyrion was strategic and realistic. And yet here, we see Tyrion make a misstep. He thinks that he can solve the Joffrey problem as easily as his other problems. And in misjudging Joffrey, he gave Joffrey the tools to further suffering rather than preventing it.

If you needed that scene to understand that Joffrey is a sociopath then I dunno what to tell you. They've pretty much made him a cartoon villain. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he tied Sansa to a railroad track (they exist in Westeros) with a top-hat and monocle and cackled profusely. I don't see how the scene is development if it's everything we'd expect from the character.

And Joffrey told the whores to go back to Tyrion and show him what he did anyway. If we actually got a follow-up then we'd see Tyrion put him in his place, but I really doubt they're going to follow the scene up since it was an added-for-TV scene with no effect on the plot.

That's true, you don't need that scene to tell you Joff is a sociopath. You also didn't need Renly and Loras in bed in Ep 3 to know Renly was gay, or Varys and Littlefinger sparring at the end of last season to know they were well-informed players, or Robert and Cersei talking to know their marriage is a sham... or Daenerys in the desert to know that she's intent on "taking what is hers" >_>.

Yes, Joff is a sociopath. But until now, the only person we've ever seen challenge him is his enabling mother. Now we get a new challenge, and we see him respond to it.

It doesn't reveal a new character trait, but it does reveal our established character's response to new situations, which is what character dramas do.

If they make no reference to this again, that will weaken my argument, but I think we'll see some follow through. Ros is apparently going to keep being in the show, and I doubt we'll bring her up again without any reference to the hugely scarring event she just had, seeing as we already got a scene of her crying over a slaughtered baby.

Not only do you come off as pointlessly cynical, but you also seem to be unable to grasp character development.

The guy making daughters from his daughters is cartoony. The soldiers at Harrenhall are cartoony in their villainy. The men in the cage headed to the wall who threaten Arya are cartoony.

Joffrey has been built up to this. Everything he does has a point, nothing for spits and giggles. He has always rejected other peoples ideas and hated being told what to do. This is normal for a teenager but it is compounded by the fact that he has been told since birth he will be king and has been constantly reminded of his superiority over others. His "role models" are an apathetic Jaime Lannister who rarely ever speaks to Joffrey( seriously do they have one scene together), Robert Baratheon who is a drunkard womanizer who publicly embarrasses his mother, and Cersei who trains him to take everything he wants and disregard how it affects others.

Alec hit the point I was leaning towards: everytime Joffrey is humiliated or made to feel weak he takes it out on someone else because he was trained to believe kings listened to no one and did whatever the hell they wanted. His mother embarrasses him when he brings up Robs bastards so he takes it out on the weakest people of all: the babies. He shows Sansa her fathers head because he needs to show everyone how dominant he is now that he's king. Robb stark keeps defeating him so he takes it out on Sansa. Tyrion embarrasses him so he takes it out on the whores.

Hell, we haven't even gotten into whether Cersei's dominant, over bearing attitude has given Joffrey a complex with women. What teenager gets a girl like Sansa and doesn't try and hit it or gets dealt two whores and instead of sex, sees them as a way to gain power back. Joffrey has got some serious issues and his character has surpassed Dany as the shows best...

Until Dany gets naked again. Then Joffrey is screwed.
