One of the better Zelda games, or no?

Motion controls enhance the experience, or ruin it?

inequalities are welcome

Worst console Zelda, but I've never played the first two. Motion Consoles were pointless or annoying except for sword fighting. Some cool moments but a lot of dumb gameplay elements.

Worst 3D Zelda(for reference my rankings are MM > WW > OoT > TP > SS).

Motion controls are some cool stuff for combat and items, everything else was pretty unnecessary, has a weak soundtrack, there are a couple of good side missions. Pacing is all kinds of whack, the near end fetchquesting had me begging it for it to stop.

Solid final boss fight(s) though, and most bosses throughout are pretty damn good.

third or fourth best zelda game, the motion controls aren't nearly as much of a problem as fi and the general hand holding is that frequently breaks the flow of the game just to treat you like a complete idiot, and the slow/unskippable text. the art style is fantastic, best set of dungeons in 3D zelda, good bosses except making you fight imprisoned more than once, really just a brilliant game that is marred by some really questionable design choices that iwata probably forced on them

Haven't really given it a fair chance yet (only got to the first dungeon and stopped), but a large reason I've only gotten that far was because motion controls are a pretty big turnoff for me.

I haven't played it since I first beat it a couple of months ago, but I'm standing by my statement that it's the best since MM. Motion controls were, for the most part, fine, but they didn't make or break the experience.

I was way more interested in the many new gameplay elements added, which were very risky, but surprisingly successful (other than a couple exceptions). The new linear design made for a really interesting and engaging adventure, but observing everyone's complaints about the game, I think I have figured out the one fatal flaw in the design philosophy where the majority of problems come from... but I don't feel like explaining it right now in detail.

has a weak soundtrack

don't see how anyone can say this coming from WW and TP, SS is the first zelda game since MM to have good dungeon music. that people say this does show how important the closing impression is, it does have pretty weak credits music and really very little near the end is great like it typically is in zelda games...

Motion controls enhance combat and item usage, ignoring thrusts and any time you had to use the Harp. Also some of the best incarnations of items across the entire series.

Movement, however, is made awful by motion controls. Flying is just god f***ing awful.

The pacing is also pretty horrid past the first 3 dungeons. And repeated fights of a certain sort should never have existed.

Overall, I find it harder to give higher than a 7.5/10 or put it above any of the other 3D Zeldas. It has some of the best gameplay and overall highest highs of the series, yet simultaneously some of the worst gameplay, as well as being constantly kept down by some of the most bafflingly poor design decisions on small game elements which repeatedly rear their heads as obnoxious reminders throughout even the best portions of the game that there are simple, basic flaws that should never be this present (or at least blatantly present) in a game that spent this long in development, especially with the polish clearly applied to some portions of the game.

Also, every single person on that dev team that thought Tadtones were an okay thing needs to go kill themselves.

Has to do with the music that I heard the most. While Skyloft is good, the flying music is not something I care for, all other 3D Zelda's have a much stronger and better overworld tune.

if you spent most of the game in the sky you're doing it wrong

not sure that I'd agree on that either, it's at least as good as the great sea(very similar kind of song just actually orchestrated) and while I love the melody of TP's field music, it doesn't even play half the time because they went way overboard on the WE CAN CHANGE THE MUSIC CUZ ITS MIDI!, so most of the time that you actually play TP you don't hear the better parts of it

First 3D Zelda that I had the patience to actually beat (I've gotten to the end of OoT, WW, and TP), which kind of makes no sense because the pacing was f***ed. Terrible "overworld", though. I hated how they recycled each area like that. You run out of new places to go very early, which is dumb. Obviously the hand holding and slow text was terrible too. I guess what kept me going the most was the incredible dungeons. The motion controls weren't too bad, though I'd still prefer a regular controller any day. For some reason I give it a 7.5-8/10 even though I've done nothing but b****. It had charm! Definitely not a game I'll play through again, there's just no way I could find the patience. Oh, and very nice endgame boss fight. Also oh, the harp sucks.

For 3D Zelda's it looks something like this: WW>OoT>SS>TP

All games in the series that I've played: LttP>AoL>LoZ>WW>OoT>SS>TP

The Sky was too empty and tedious and the fact that there were only 3 areas (granted that they were densely packed with things to do) seems kinda lacking, and of course Fi is the biggest video game annoyance ever, but it's overall a really good game.

One problem that Zelda has and that I haven't seen anyone else complain about is the fact that rupees are far too easy to get and there's nothing to do with them. At least half the goddess cube chests are nothing but rupees or things to GET more rupees, like the 10th goddess wing when you only need one or two for all the upgrades. And why are there SIX wallet upgrades? I'm never going to need 5000 rupees, and 9900 is complete lunacy. Same goes for bugs and materials: way to easy to get and not nearly enough to use them for. Zelda needs more things to put in chests other than money and worthless trinkets. The medals were a good idea, but all of their effects sucked.

It definitely has a lot of noticeable flaws, but it's a good game. Out of the 3D Zeldas, MM > OoT > WW > SS > TP. However, for every Pro, there seems to be a big Con.

PROS & CONS:
PRO: Excellent dungeons, some of the best in Zelda
CON: However they usually ended in a very lackluster boss fight (aside from a few)

PRO: Flying is a great concept
CON: There's few places to go in the sky, motion controls are very unhelpful, and air combat is very frustrating. Also, no nighttime flight or Goggles upgrade (I fully expected to be travelling places and to the worlds below at night in the second half. It actually may be a Pro that it just didn't do something so simple and obvious)

PRO: The three underworlds were densely packed with things to do, dungeons, quests, characters, routes, history, and scenery. They were also like broad dungeons themselves
CON: There were only three and you only ever went to them because you needed something from them. Why would you fly all the way there just to hang out when there's really not much to do aside from what the story moving forward wants? And flying between them suuuucked.

PRO: Upgrades & medals were an excellent addition. They allow you to get stronger over time and give you something to spend your money on.
CON: Medals are often worthless, upgrades finish up way too fast, you're done collecting new materials by the middle of the game, and why the hell do you need 9900 Rupees available when there's absolutely nothing to spend more than about 2000 on? Why?

PRO: There are some great characters...
CON: ...who aren't touched on at all after you get a bird. Except for Groose, Zelda, and Impa, who even does anything ever again? They just stand around doing nothing with no story. Okay, there's that push up kid from the Academy and the bat guy, but who else?

PRO: Weapons are great and inventive with lots of great puzzles to use them on. Beetle's one of the best items ever.
CON: It's just too bad they do jack in combat. Whip sucks, Gust Bellows sucks, Slingshot's okay but ammo is limited most places, Beetle's worthless without bombs or beehives, lol net, Clawshot sucks and will always suck in comparison to the Hookshot (not just because it stuns enemies, but it can also attach to things that are not obviously designated targets!). You've got your sword, your bow, and your bombs and that's it. It gets old. At least Twilight Princess had the Ball & Chain.

PRO: There were some really fun sidequests and games.
CON: And there were some really frustrating games that are difficult to master for little reward.

PRO: See con.
CON: Fi. The Harp. Cinematics of harp playing and Fi dancing. Forced tutorials. Forced sidequests (**** you, Water Dragon). Empty, Empty overworld.

Mana pretty much hit it with that pro/con list. However, I liked most of the bosses except for the scorpion. Despite that, I really like Skyward Sword. I didn't mind the motion controls one bit. Flying was a little difficult at first (since I don't think it tells you how to ascend). Aside from that and the harp (which is just a complete abomination, there's not one damn good thing about that harp), motion controls were just fine. I thought swimming was going to be bad, but it ended up being pretty okay.

Second best Zelda for me. If you want my mainline ranking, it'd go MM > SS > WW > OoT > ALttP > TP. Keep in mind that I only played ALttP once and I played it around 2008-2009. Also, I didn't play either of the first 2 Zeldas for very long.

Worst 3D Zelda by a large margin. The boring overworld is the main problem. There's no sense of scale, it just feels like a bunch of levels you have to travel back and forth from. There just needs to be more to do in the sky.

Another big problem is the lack of variety in enemies. Re-used enemies is one thing, but recycled boss fights are unacceptable. Fi is also pretty annoying and there's too much hand-holding.

Pros: Motion controls, graphics, Zelda and Groose development.

I think it's a very strong game. Its only really obvious flaw is that the world is kind of cramped and there frankly isn't a lot to do in terms of side quests.

Or it feels that way, at least.

I think it's an excellent game, you just kind of expect more from it.

Motion controls were good when it didn't come to flight.
